I think that the letting agent went round to the house, held them down, tattood them and then shaved their heads!!

....ahhhhh that explains why scooby blames the letting agent for his predicament then!

Maybe it was also the letting agents who did the fly tipping... which explains why the neighbours think the tenants are so lovely and yet Scooby is so frightened of them! :rotfl: :rotfl:

From what I've understood, the gang leader (as in working gang - not gang as in criminals) will be paying the rent, then illegally subletting to temporary immigrants as explained in post #17 on this thread.

I would be interested to see or know what references were provided or checked by the agent, as I would imagine this won't be the first time this tenant would have pulled this off.

The agent was paid (as I understand it) to find and run checks on the incoming tenant, at which point their responsibility ended.

I'm assuming here, but I'd say a number of checks never took place or were simply ignored. This tenant would hardly have had many previous tenancy references.

Now if this is not the agents problem or beyond their remit, then what are they being paid for to start with?

Hi Loretta... I'm no expert but you could try the following (assuming your browser will allow it):

1) Click on 'User CP' (above this thread box);
2) Look at the options on the left hand side and click on 'edit options';
3) Scroll right down to the bottom of the list into 'Miscellaneous options';
4) Use the drop down menu to select 'standard editor - extra formatting controls' and save your changes;
5) Next time you post a reply you should see lots of different 'laughy things' (and mad, angry etc) on the right hand side of your screen; then you just click on the ones you want to appear in your post.

I agree with much of what you say Alan and at the beginning of the thread many people tried to help Scooby in what at first appeared to be a desperate situation. Indeed, I kept returning to read the posts as I felt so sorry for him. However, the more he posted the more contradictions he made and the ruder he got!
From what I understand, Scooby only employed the LA to find his original tenants and presumably take up references. If, as soon as Scooby realised most/all the original tenants had disappeared and were illegally sub-letting, he had immediately contacted the LA and attempted to evict the illegal tenants (using his great connections with a Polish subordinate at work to help with translation etc) then I would have every sympathy with his situation and would agree with you that he had a case of negligence against the LA. However, it appears that he waited almost a year before he did anything constructive (in the meantime inflicting what would appear to be simultaneously the neighbours from hell and heaven on the local community). He accepted the rent all this time; despite thinking they were running a brothel, doing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to his property and illegally fly-tipping etc etc. He also apparently roamed the corridors of his property (ogling scantily-clad Polish women) whilst simultaneously being refused entry and having the door slammed in his face! His story just doesn't add up which is why several posters started questioning what he had been doing/saying. At that point he started using personal insults and snide remarks. When I pointed out all the inconsistencies in his posts he suddenly stopped posting!

I think (like you) the question about the liability of the LA is very interesting and, had scooby been more consitent and less rude, I'm sure more people would have been prepared to discuss this and offer advice where they could. :beer:

It's not racism - its the last ten posts or so of childish character assasination that echos Jade and Danielle.

As far as rudeness goes on this thread - scoobyman has nothing to worry about.
