Pay & reclaim for Holiday Inn? No way! Anything even slightly circuitous is to be avoided like the plague after all the OP has been through! Plus Holiday Inn have been unhelpful so far.

Need to keep things simple - a cancellation and nothing but a cancellation. If H I themselves suggest the pay / reclaim route then say NO loud and clear. They have to cancel it.

And yes of course do not feed the beast, it'll only encourage 'em.

Write bad stuff on consolidators' review pages, TripAdvisor, Trivago, Hotels.com and Facebook.

I travel abroad frequently by car and always read the reviews on Booking.com before staying at a hotel.

Have you complained to your MP?

When I go to book a hotel, I always phone and ask if they have parking vermin. If they say yes, I tell them I will go elsewhere.

The OP's experience puts me in mind of Terry Gillingham's film 'Brazil'. It all starts with an overdue library book .....

Long time since I've seen it but I think Robert De Niro plays Coupon-mad ...

Hi. I’ve had a “Parking Charge Notice” from Private Eye for an over stay of 13 minutes as I pulled over to take a call ... do I have to it this as I’m worried sick and don’t have that kind of spare cash ???

I'm afraid you do if you don't want to pay. Read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, post #1 to set you on the way, then start a new thread of your own if you want further help.

One case one thread - forum rules. :)
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
