I think your interpretation of the t&c is plainly incorrect.
I think what you are doing is a typical example of scaremongering.
And your post makes a false impression that HTC's and Samsung's plans have something to do with the changes in the T&C that clearly is not the case.
It is clear that iOs, Android and Windows Mobile will remain on the market for many years ahead and it makes no sense when buying a device today base the decision simply on the share of the market they have now or will have in a year.

Re the T&C, what actually happens is that IF you visit some webpages or use free apps (that reserve some space on the screen for adverts because they are free) that show some special adverts, google can customize some adverts to make them more relevant to you. Ebay are already doing this. If you visit some webpage where they have an advert banner, they customize this banner using the cookies saved on your computer. As simple as that.
Googe are doing this in their gmail system. Small adverts each customer see change depending on, say, the wording of the e-mail they are looking at.

All this is just targeting, not 'taking over'. You will not see anything extra on the top of what you normally see.

your link says HTC are cutting back on their smartphone portfolio
you know HTC dont make just Android smartphones?
Where else with the Apple products you know what you are buying and updates etc are much easy to get. YOu would not get problem like this app only work with 4in screen or only with this OS version, very common with Android devices.

this whole statement shows how Apple is perfect for you.

  • What about a Blackberry? They also do everything plus they are not as data hungry as some other smartphones.

As said in the above posts it is down to you and what phone you want. I have a Blackberry because it does what I want it to do. Others prefer Android and again some have Iphones.

Go and have a look at the ones you are thinking about because with contracts now 24 months it's no good getting one and 2 months down the line saying you don't like it.

The Carphone Warehouse have working samples of most smartphones instead of dummy ones.
  • I was pondering just before Xmas .............. I plumped for a Galaxy S2 and I love it. £20 contract with T Mobile, but through Tesco Mobile shop online with £35 Quidco cashback ! By the looks of it I am going to get around £30 to recycle my 1 year old Samsumg Monte PAYG "sweet" !
The main thing I like with the S2 is the large screen especially when surfing the web.

also the Playbooks are going cheap just now if going the BB route(though the next update supposedly adds more Android features)

I find my HTC Desire Z is great; I wanted a smartphone with a keyboard. Doesn't really seem to have taken off though!
I would gladly recommend Android over iPhone as iPhone is much less flexible (no flash? can't sync properly with some Microsoft apps?). Of course the problem is that iPhone is quite high-spec so if you compare a high-spec Android you'll be comparing the same thing; where there are low-spec Androids as well which will clearly be poorer in performance terms.
I have heard good things of the Samsung Galaxy SII but have not used one myself.

I bought mine before they reduced the price. A 64gb is cheaper than my 16gb one.

Is that why Samsung think Google's takever of Motorola is not a good thing for them?
That was the point I am trying to make, the Android will be around for many years but most if not all products will be released by Motorola. The Google can change the terms for Android to stop others from releasing Android phones or only give the updates to Motorola. The Google have already done this with some version of Android.

If this was to happen and this is what Samsung / HTC think will happen reading from the statements.
