I doubt the HPI is "free", rather that the dealership just pays for a subscription or similar.Strider590 wrote: »For a start, they've been using it as a dealership taxi, that's where the extra miles have come from.
Secondly the HPI check costs next to nothing, a quick search show's £19.99, a dealership can do these checks for free IIRC.
My brother has had HPI's checks done for me in the past, didn't cost a penny as he works at a main dealership.
Still not £85 though!Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
It's only free to the employee but at the employers expense. Get caught and they might discipline him.0

Ash, if you're the young lady sapper that I absolutely adore, give me a call and I'll come down to the garage with you.0

Personally I would not buy any car if it didn't have a dealer service record and previous MOTs (where applicable) to support the mileage.
Dealer service history isn't particularly important, a decent independent is just as good if not better.
Previous MOTs can be checked online easily enough.
Personally I just wouldn't buy a car from Evans Halshaw, too many horror stories and the sneakily adding extra fees on top of the list price comes up in pretty much all of them.0 -

I have just brought a car from EH for my daughter and they charged me £98.99 for a vehicle status check. I was told this was compulsory and could not be waived so therefore reluctantly paid. After reading these comments I have emailed them and requested a full refund of the £98.99 which they have agreed to. They also only offered a 3 month warranty not 12 months as advertised on the car details advertised on their website. Again they have now given me a 12 month warranty.0

Think i'd have been walking away without the car and with my money still bulging in back pocket.
Not the sort of people i'd be prepared to give my hard earned to.0 -
I had them try that routine at Quicks, EH's sister company. They were trying to scare me into doing it to be covered against the car being on HP etc. I merely pointed out that if the Police turned up to take the car away, that it was Quicks problem if they sold me a car they didn't own.0

s b, You just lost yourself a sale. I want more than a discount for my daughter.
I was thinking a straight swap. Maybe even a bit of money my way.
Is business that bad you take daughters as part exchange?
