Channel 9 is the least used frequency channel 1 is the default and channel interference is awful 6 or 11 is Ok but as the Uk also uses 9 which is quite redundant then this will be fine.

You need to know what you're on about before posting.
I couldn't agree more with your last sentence, and your first sentence is full of errors and misconceptions..

The UK allows channels 1-13 as valid channels, and you can use any one of them.
Channels 1, 6 and 11 are the only ones which do not interfere with each other, because there is no overlap between signals on channels 1 and 6, or 6 and 11. That is why these channels are chosen by the ISP and defaulted into the wireless router (look at InSSIDer and you'll find almost all nearby wireless routers are using one of channels 1, 6 or 11).
Channel 9 has no special magic about it, and is "just another channel" which could interfere with any nearby channel.
A bit of research would have given you the above information, differently worded, perhaps.

I suppose the router manufacturers who set them to 1,6 or 11 know nothing too?

I am curious though why is channel 9 an "absolute must for the Hub and SuperHub supplied by Virgin"? And you do realise that quote is completely wrong from the off because clearly channel 9 isnt 'a must' as it works on other channels
