Help smoking mp3 charger!

Got daughter a mp3 player toys r us for xmas

she was happy until now.

wasent cheapest was 39.99 she wanted pink touchscreen with camera.

anyway today she said mummy not working its dead
thourght its been on too long.

plugged it into charger provided.

its black plug with light on
and what would descrive as usb cable-sorry not techie.

as nsoon as plugged lead into plug it started smoking!

imediatly switch off and unplugged.

what you thinks caused it?
rang toys r us taking it in tommorow.

need to hunt down receipt and they say will be sent off but very popular had no probs.

think lost confidence and unsure it was it replaced with same

but toys r us quite poor range.

any idea where to get good oink mp3 player for 6year old?
sadly cant stretch to i pod touch as she woould love games!
Only the apple ones seem to supprt games.

right now options are

replace with same
get refund and buy a apple shuffle but not touch and no camera!
get recondition nano off apple for 95 quid and add the extra £55 to budget not ideal but want something safe, easy to use and will last.

But then ahh would have to buy her a cheap camera!

shes 6 in 2weeks so already brought most of her pressies!

Was it the player or the charger that started smoking?

If it is then it charges via mini-usb, so if it was the charger smoking rather than the device you could try charging it from a computers USB port. If it didnt come with the cable for this (which it probably will for doing data transfer etc) then most cameras and smart phones (other than the iphone) tend to use the same mini-USB connection.

Ah, it's an Elonex. At one time they were a reputable computer manufacturer.

They have branched out into other things now. It looks good for the price. Seems as though it has gone up to £49.99.

Looks as though it may take a micro-USB connector for charging. OP may be able to use the supplied USB lead and try plugging it into a computer to charge it.

You don't need the receipt for proof of purchase. You can also show them a credit/debit card statement for the amount.

plug point seems fine had hoover in it yesterday

it was fuly charged last night upstairs fine.

just daughter had been listening to it loads this morning

The smoke was coming from usb cable between the black plu the plug and socket itself or mp3 player was not smoking.

The bit where usb connects to plu smells burnt even so no doubt i was telling the truth.

im just glad no one got hurt.

think im just bit paranoid as saw bbc programme fake britain child died from fake ds charger so worry about electricals.

im sure toys are us had more selection before xmas .

chose them as theyt were one of few places with pink touchscreen at reasonable price as with kids you never know how long things will last .was hoping longer than a month!

to be honest not as user freindly as thourght it would be is quite fiddly.

Thourght least with buying apple one their be some gurantee its good.

The phillips ones in argos look ok but not her preferred colour pink!

Did look at elonux tablets on toys r us website before xmas as cheap but bad reveiws.

They do seem to have quite a few different brands.

The Elonex one in the link above looks good but costs a little more. You can get some cashback from the cashback sites if you buy online.

Maybe you could write to their head office and as a gesture of good will ask them to upgrade it to the Elonex MP3 player.

I would post a review yourself about the one you have on the Toys R' Us website.

Make sure you take a backup of the songs on the player if you don't already have them on your computer.
