Ringtons cold calling - new tactic

When we moved into our last property it had one of those signs on from the previous tenants. About a week later we couldn't believe our luck when a Virgin chap knocked on our door to offer their services, we signed up there and then, cancelled the BT order we wasn't majorly pleased with and never looked back0

Re Ringtons - we don't have a sign up about 'no cold callers' - TBH it doesn't bother me that much.
Last week a guy knocked and he was a rep for Ringtons.
He asked what tea we drank and I said (truthfully) 'My OH drinks tea, he's tasted Rington's and prefers Dilmah's (which is pretty hard to get hold of).
He then asked me about coffee and I said (again truthfully) I usually buy Kenco or Nescafe Colombian & Costa Rican when on offer in Tesco.
He asked me if I'd try their coffee, priced at £2.49 per 100gm (which works out the same as I usually pay) and he'd throw in a free packet of biscuits (which my Mum loves).
So I said 'yes' and he said someone would call the following day between 3 & 4pm with the coffee & biscuits but they never did!
What a waste of time for Ringtons.0 -

Made on the same production line as M&S teabags...Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Some sister she is
You can't even rely on family nowadays:D

It's a much maligned and unpopular way of drumming up business and sensible companies are wise to avoid it. There are a few exceptions I guess; some established businesses are very much associated with doorstep selling, e.g. Avon, Bettaware, Kleeneze. Mind you, even these manage to piss people off
A lot of people who order from Ringtons door to door salespeople are pensioners who won't have access to the internet. Where my MIL lives, in a sheltered accomodation complex, they all love Ringtons. Also, the Ringtons rep might be the only person they see or speak to during the day.
As for the OP, personally i can't understand why you would have a doorstep argument with someone about why they have knocked at your door. Or make a complaint, but thats just me. I'd just be polite and say i'm not interested thanks, i always find that if you're polite with people, they accept what you're saying.0 -

I agree with both your points.0 -

I totally agree with your first point. I have nothing against Ringtons as a company at all, and as I have said previously I know they are reputable.
My issue is very much that this particular woman ignored a sign that was right in front of her eyes when she rang my bell, and then tried to say she wasn't trying to sell me anything. I really don't like being lied to. The reason I started this thread was to warn FMs in case others in their sales force were using this tactic. It may be just this one woman, or several others too, I don't know. But believe me she was tenacious and wasn't going to take a "not today, thankyou" as a reason to get her hand out of the door opening.
Obviously I don't know where you live, but maybe you are luckier than we are. We live in an ordinary house, in an ordinary street. We are plagued with cold callers. Before we had the sign, it was not unusual to get 4 or 5 a day! It really does get very wearing.0
