  • Stupid question alert...

If I simply want to plug in a Sky box or DVD player, do I need a TV, or can I use a suitably specced monitor? Unlikely to need the tuner as we don't even have an aerial....told you it was stupid!
  • Your question is only partly stupid :D ...from what I can see on the spec sheet, there is no composite video in (which wouldn't give great results anyway) or any RGB connector....so that'll be a no (unless you have Sky HD, which has an HDMI output ....which can be adapted to plug into the DVI in of the monitor)
  • Thanks Hank....was a general question rather than specific to this. I guess I should have asked in the techie forum....but it's late! So do I need an RGB connector? Or would a scart socket - assuming there are mOnitors with them - do it? Just don't want to spend the extra on a full blown TV if not necessary.

    Thanks again

Why not go for this one instead? Great screen, slightly larger and priced the same as many good brand 19".
  • You can get converters for most things (assuming you're not going from digital -> analogue or back its not too difficult). If you're not using something with HDMI/DVI (IE. Sky HD, DVD Player) then you'll need to go with the analogue VGA port.

So, I'd assume you want a VGA male to Scart cable. Have a look on Ebay, I bet there are loads for a few pounds.

Although the cable isn't the problem, I'm not sure if it would actually work, as the screen may not detect the signal coming from the box as a valid display signal. Can't see why it wouldn't, but I'm not completely sure.

I personally would just go for a proper LCD TV. They're getting dirt cheap now so theres not really an excuse.
