TeenyBash, the bickering is a societal ill. It is unhelpful I agree (witness the garbage between your post and mine).

However, having read your post which looks like a dose of common sense, it unfortunately contains the same flaw as the suggestion by like_u_not_an_expert. How exactly do you suggest the OP cancels "all direct debits/automated payments to the payday loan companies...
If the payday loan companies have your credit/debit card/bank account details on file, consider contacting your bank(s) and cancelling these cards (creditors have been know to take amounts from cards on their files without permission) and getting new ones"

I have just explained at length that your #1 and #2 points of advice are wishful thinking until such time as you find a sure fire way to cancel the payments. There is no sure fire way unless you can persuade your bank that they need to take specific issue with the PDL Co on the basis that they are allowing the banks payments systems to be abused and the particular PDL Co is a proven culprit. You'll almost certainly only achieve that if you can get the PDL Co to admit it in writing. I explained having gained some knowledge of how these particular payment systems work. I hate CPA/CCAs with a vengeance. They should be outlawed as they serve no public good purpose.

No one has yet provided the answer to that one.

I agree, which is why I also mentioned getting a new bank account for household essential bills etc. Leave original account empty. At least this way the creditor could not take money needed for essentials.

Good luck with your situation OP. As for the variety of posts on here, I would advise you to take notice of the advice that is relevant to your situation and forget about the rest. I am sure you know that you have made a mistake with taking out these payday loans but you have acknowledged this and are trying to dig yourself out of the mess. You really don't need it thrown back in your face by people who clearly enjoy the fact that you have 'taken the bait'.

I guess that might work although I would worry that many banks would charge a fee every time a DD was attempted and failed through lack of funds. The new bank account would need to be with a different bank else the bank might grab and offset any credit balance in he new account against unpaid DD fees in the other :(

I have only discovered recently that DD originators can apparently reinstate DDs a easily as we can cancel them. Something else which the banks should be made to outlaw. Their payment systems when used and abused this way are aiding and abetting corporates to plunder consumers.

In this case, to be completely sure, close existing account (presuming they will allow you to), open new account with completely unassociated bank. With a basic account you can still have debit debits/standing orders etc.
