Well ive been a customer of lovefilm of a few years but haven't really streamed much(started to watch a film but turned it off).
I have recently started a subscription with netflix and so far i havent managed to find many films that are on my lovefilm list but i need to go further a few pages to really see if i can find 1 thats on my lovefilm account.
The idea was to cancel lovefilm and keep netflix IF i were able to view films that are on my lovefilm list.
I have noticed that netflix seems to have films that are more recent whereas i have older films eg films from 2001 etc.
Oh im using the xbox 360 to view films from both services.1 -
I am not a big fan of Netflix at all, the choice of movies and out dated films are a put off. I looked at LoveFilm and they have so much more to offer than Netflix, Im afraid im not a fan of netflix at all.Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0

I must personally give the thumbs up for Netflix, myself my partner and my little boy all have something here we like.
I have never gone down the road of any pay tv but in my opinion people pay sat and cable operators up to £30 per month for such content.
I am not a latest, greatest must be hot off the press person. I get little time to watch tv having a family and being a more outdoors type family so over the years we have never been glued to tv.
On looking over the netflix selection we have found many tv series from the UK and USA we have never watched and have heard many good things about. We have only been on the free sub perior since 13th Feb and we have also watched 6 films which we have never watched and all were to our taste and quality.
Taking a MSE view on the films we watched we priced them up on Amazon and ebay to see what we could get them for if we bought them on DVD, it worked out about £32.00 at best, this is just under 6 months netflix subs. But if we take into account Month 1 is free and we signed up via topcashback which means we have £12.50 on its way to us, effectively giving us another 2 months free.
Above on beyond films, Netflix have contracts with UK broadcasters BBC, ITV and Ch4 this means we are getting all the TV shows they have released over the years which we have never watched.
For example ones that suit our personal tastes we have not watched that exists on the catch up tv list on NF are 24, Prison Break, Spooks, Skins and this is just the tip of what we have found, all of which may be on sat or cable but at time you must watch them and at a high cost.
I personally give netflix the thumbs up and for info if anyone is interested we are using The Western Digital Live TV box which we already had to stream netflix.
I hope that gives a good rounded view of this service, by the way if you have children who love thomas the tank engine they have 380 episodes and all the films on there as well.
Also you do not have to find storage space for endless DVDs now.Go confidently in the direction of your dreams!0 -
I'm using Netflix on a laptop connected to a TV by a VGA cable. Sound and vision are out of synch by about 10 seconds. Is there a fix for this?0
-
Just trying to set this up - we have a vga cable - so we have selected that option - plugged the cable into pc and telly, we have extended the desktop nowand the telly shows picture but no sound and it says unsupported signal adjust your pc - aaaagh what do I need to do???????0

Hi MSE just wanted to let you know the tool for choosing leads for PC to TV appears not be working - Connecting your laptop/PC to your TV?0

Im hearing impaired so like having subtitles on when I watch tv (don't wanna upset the neighbours). I bought the £10 groupon deal for lovefilm and was most unimpressed to find NONE of their English language content has subtitles, so I'm left watching foreign films.
Does anyone know about the other providers availability of subtitles?0 -
My tip here is, if you can stand to wait a few days, buy the cheapest DVD on offer for the movie you want second-hand on Amazon, and then sell its again on Amazon after you've watched it! You will probably get your money back minus fees. It's cheaper than renting0

I'm surprised this isn't in this thread: VoDo.net
Stands for Voluntary Donation. Its a place for indie producers and film makers to showcase their work. Its all free and legal to download and share (Creative Commons). If you like the movie/show you can donate as little or as much as you want.
A lot of it is 'artistic', but every now and then they get something thats amazing. Examples:
Pioneer One: A mysterious spaceship has entered Earth's atmosphere. A US Department of Homeland Security investigation has uncovered a live human being in a Soviet space suit in an unstable condition. A note in Russian, found at the crash site, claims the man is the child of cosmonauts living at a base on Mars
The Yes Men Fix The World: THE YES MEN FIX THE WORLD is a screwball true story about two gonzo political activists who, posing as top executives of giant corporations, lie their way into big business conferences and pull off the world's most outrageous pranks.
And a recent one L5: The crew aboard the spaceship Argo has just awoken from hypersleep to a nightmare. Having spent the last twenty years searching for a new home to salvage humanity from a dying earth they return home and find something has gone terribly wrong. They have been mysteriously impelled 200 years into the future and find not a trace of any human life.

MSE would probably need to clarify, but its my understanding that LoveFilm class each episode of a TV show as a title, where as Netflix's classes a show (even if its 4 seasons and 100 episodes) as one single title, so while they say that Netflix only has 1000+ titles and LoveFilm 5000+ titles, its not quite accurate.
My own opinion is that Netflix is far superior to LoveFilm, I have both (streaming only for LF) and its chalk and cheese. Sure LF does have more new titles, partly because they got to the market first and snapped up some exclusive content, but in terms of the overall service Netflix beats the pants off LF.
I have had both for around 3 months and have only watched one movie on LF. First film I tried kept stopping to buffer every 30 seconds so I gave up after 5 mins. Did sucessfully watch a movie a few weeks back, but picture quality wise its nowhere near DVD quality. I also find the navigation for TV shows on LF to be shockingly bad. If you select TV shows, each episode is just listed as indvidual episode and not grouped into shows, so you literally have to click and scroll through dozens of pages (first page could be 10 episodes of Lost, 2 of Cougar Town, all just randon episodes, etc) to see what titles they have. I certainly can't seem to find just a list of shows.
Netflix on the other had is a breeze to use. Lots of the movie and TV shows are in HD and look amazing, almost Blu Ray quality (and thats on just a 4mb connection), sure the movies are older, but lots of great classics on there that I would definately been keen to watch again and lots of great TV shows, including acclaimed US stuff like Dexter, Breaking Bad, Damages and populist stuff like 24, Prison Break, Heroes, The Office, etc. My only negative with Netflix is lack of new films, but they have stated they are basically going to be bidding against Sky and LF for content when current deals expire. Other slight niggle is that you can't change the order of how it shows the movie and TV titles (i.e can't change it to A-Z, most popular, etc) and therefore you just have to scroll through the banner, but the search tool works fine if you want to look for a specific title.
Will be interesting to see how things shape up over the coming months and years. Given that LF is majorty owned by Amazon, I'm suprised its not better than it is. They really need to get their streaming, HD and navigation sorted. If they pulled their fingers out, it would really only be down to content, but for now and for me, Netflix wins.0
