Mid terrace - one side nothing ever! the other side everything they are incredibly loud, I can tell you everything about their lives and find myself constantly turning our tv volume up of an evening as they become louder, and LOUDER. When we have mentioned it to them its what us ! and are then louder than ever, other half says we should start making lots of noise but I will not lower myself to their level. It is a relief when they go out or on holiday, which is not often enough

We live in a semi but the main rooms (bedroom, living room) are on the outside of the houses, so we hardly hear anything. They seem to go the shop across the road loads, so we're always hearing their front door but that's about it. I used to live in a terrace and that was pretty quiet too. The only thing I could hear there was next door's comedy rows, and they were brilliant entertainment so I didn't mind that at all.

My sister's house is awful - it must have really thin walls as you can hear everything the neighbours say. It's like they're in the house with us. Plus they have very loud 'special time'!

60s semi. Older couple moved in a few years ago next door. DIY noises, occasional vacuuming. Their new central heating fires up at 6am making a lot of squealing but I usually can sleep through that. first night they moved in could hear headboard banging against the wall lol either not had it there since or moved the bed a bit. Before them a family with teenagers lived there and I could hear loud music/TV/voices/footsteps all the time but they had laminate flooring throughout the house and when the carpet was put down by the new ones it made a lot of difference.

Hear everything which includes people in the corridor coming home Friday and Sat nights super drunk. One side the flat is empty at the moment, which is lovely.

But would not recommend living here unless you don't mind lots of noise and hearing a lot of personal stuff about other peoples lives.

Some people seem really unbothered by noise though and tune it out.

1920s semi - if they really really crank the music up (they don't thankfully) we can get their bass but that's about it. Oh and his alarm clock in the morning very faintly. They're pretty well sound-proofed these houses - knew how to build 'em back then!

My ground floor apartment is terrible,we can hear the people above cooking, preparing food, washing up,using the loo(No1 & 2s)showering,walking,talking,having sex, closing cupboard doors and drawers, etc, etc.
  • I used to live in a 300 year old cottage and on one side the noise was terrible, babies screaming, parents arguing....could hear every word . Kids running up and down staitrs, front door banging etc etc. The other side was silent.

I now live in a 2 year old first floor apartment and the only thing I hear is the upstairs neighbour who either has incredibly flat feet or a herd of small elephants :rotfl:
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

One side our hallway is attached to where their hallway would have been (they've knocked that wall down) so we hear nothing generally except when their son moves back home when we can hear the screaming, shouting, swearing and banging & crashing as though it's in our front room. You can hear them talking very clearly though in the kitchen adn bathroom. I no longer have a bath on a Saturday morning as she is always in the bathroom at that time and I then have to lay there listening to their conversation and her coughing her guts up. I have occasionally said 'bless you' to her when she's sneezed, forgetting she's in a different house :o.

The other side our rooms are all attached, so we hear their telly, the sons music is just as loud as it would be if it was in our house (his bedroom is at the back and we can still hear it in the front room (he's also nearly 30, not 15 fgs, but that's a different gripe altogether). Their sliding wardrobes wake me up most mornings. We hear their telephone conversations, laughing, arguments and worst of all, the thing that is making me desperately want to move...his bloody farting!

God knows what they can hear from us!

  • My mother lives in a semi-detached and is now in the process of moving because of the noise. Parties at the weekend going on till all hours which usually result in fights outside on the front! Parents screaming at their kids or arguing between themselves.

Basically they are a typical 'chav' family!
