London_Town wrote: »A pet peeve of mine is the way advertisers and the media tell me to "grab" something. There's a drinks machine at my gym and it says "grab a bottle for £1". Apart from the price being obscene, I'd rather not "grab" anything thank you. To me, grabbing suggests aggressive, hostile, ill mannered, vulgar behaviour. If I wanted a drink I'd take one not grab one.
:rotfl:Definately identify with that one!!0 -
My pet peeve is 'Gawjus', I loathe this spelling with a passion and unfortunately most of DH's family use it on a regular basis
'oh she looks gawjus luv her' (yes I hate 'luv' as well).
Also hate people picking their nose and eating it, makes me want to vomit every time I see someone do it.SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
This thread has really made me chuckle. I agree with so many of them.
One thing that really irks me though, is people who seem to be in a rush, but they aren't going to get anywhere quicker.
for example, when flying and the plane has just landed, why is everyone suddenly up and trying to get their bags before the seat belt sign has been turned off. We still have to wait for the doors to be opened. And they people who are rushing up the aisle, you are still waiting for the door to open, then waiting at customs, then waiting for your luggage to arrive. WHAT IS THE RUSH.
People who go to concerts and start to leave before the show is over so they aren't stuck waiting in the car! What is the point, you paid for that ticket, why are you suddenly so eager to get out?
Driving in suburban areas, you can zoom past me, but there are roundabouts and traffic lights everywhere, I am going to get there just as fast as you, I just wont break the speed limit doing it.
At the cinema, the movie has barely even finished and everyone is rushing out the door. Don't you go to the movies to relax and chill out, why are you rushing to get out the door now?0 -
My pet peeve is being asked 'You all right there?' instead of 'May I help you?' in a shop.
Happened in the bank on Monday. I feel like just saying 'I'm fine, thanks.' Then I wouldn't get any service.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
Haha I have a few!
* People holding my mug but the top rather than the handle when making me a tea at work because...
* No one seems to wash their hands! I am a bit anal about this but at work if people sneeze/cough etc, they don't get up to wash their hands which I think is disgusting!
* Cutlery being put the wrong way round in the drawer (how silly, I know!)
* My OH doesn't put things away - e.g. hair wax left on the side not back in the cupboard, his tobacco is left on the side not in the little box he has which can tidy it away
* Poor spelling and grammar. I understand some people can't help it but I so often see 'defiantly' instead of 'definitely', or 'should of' not 'should have', and one that REALLY annoys me is ' status' ' instead of 'statuses'. SO annoying!
* Similar to the above, I don't understand why no one can grasp the different tenses for the verbs 'to sit' or 'to stand'. It's not 'I was sat/stood', it's 'I was sitting/standing'. You don't say 'I was ran', or 'I was laughed'; I don't understand how this has become so common!
* I really disike noisy eating noises, to the point where I'll move away from anyone doing it where I can.
* People making constant noise, be it whistling, humming, tapping, clicking etc.
* People who walk really slowly in public and/or stop randomly in the middle of the pavement or supermarket aisle or whatever; sod's law it's usually when I'm in a rush!
* Rude people. Manners cost nothing!
Think I will stop there so as not to make myself sound a real grump! I like to think I'm easy going but clearly not...!0 -

I completely agree. I'm a fairly 'fast' person myself and can't stand dawdlers and people who get in my way, but I equally can't stand people who rush around in a completely unproductive manner! Add to your points:
- People who get up way too early on the train. We're MILES away from the next stop. If you want to stand up for the next twenty minutes then knock yourself out, but you look like a knob and it's not going to make the train arrive any faster.
- People who get their keys out when they're half a mile away from their house/car. Yes, fine, have your keys ready as you approach the door, but why do you need to walk down the entire street jangling them about, as if to say, "ooh look at me, I have keys! To my own door! I know how to open it and everything! Shiny shiny! I AM AMAZING." Just go away.0 -
It used to be fashionable to hang big bunches of jangly keys from your belt loops - oh look at me, aren't I important, I have access to lots of places you don't. I thought it just used to look a bit pathetic.Make £2025 in 2025

When you are standing, with a group of other people waiting for a lift to arrive (or @ traffic lights waiting for the green man) , then someone else comes and joins the que and presses the button….. Do they think that everyone is standing here and no one has thought of that already?0
-
People that walk about with blue tooth hands free ear pieces on ALL of the time0
-
People who say "me and my husband" rather than "my husband and I". Presumably they were vacant during the 9-11 years of compulsory education in this country!
You've reminded me of another peeve! People who think 'My husband and I' (for example) is always right! Sometimes it IS 'me and my husband'! That really annoys me.
