Had a nice week of DTDs on OOD SELs and thought it might be good to give a bit of a guide for newbies. (well, explain what I do anyway)
First of all, its about keeping an eye on things and being patient. You cant expect to watch the whole store, so pick out what you really want, and keep an eye on it. My rules are that I generally refuse to pay for things so I'm looking for half price/ BOGOF SELs or better.
Most departments have regular days where special offers change; phones, fresh meat and veg are Sundays, toiletries are Tuesday, wine is Tuesday.
However, recently, there seems to be more variability on days/ dates when offers end and these are great opportunities. Staff (like us) are creatures of habit and will know when theyre supposed to change prices on offers. An offer on an unusual day may be missed.
Other things to watch out for are where stock is piled up in other places. My store has boxes of special offer wine stocked up at the end of most aisles, especially around the fridges. Sometimes, they forget this wine is there and a SEL can be OOD. Same applies to household goods, Ive found saucepans etc with OOD SELs of a few days old in this way.
Other things are big cardboard bins that are brought in for special offers. They often have the special offer price printed on the side and so if the offer changes, staff are programmed to think about SELs only and sometimes miss these
Conversely, dont ever bother keeping an eye on aisle ends. These are designnated special offer areas and will always be changed over on time. HO sends plans for these.
Thats what comes to mind now, HTH

I know this feeling:rotfl: Since joining in with this thread I've started buying things I have no need of but know that others will be glad of them. Trouble is that I've always had a reputation for hunting down bargains and it's now expected of me that I'll turn up something when people need it. Too much pressure:rotfl::rotfl:
can't agree with you enough there Artha everytime anyone needs anything i end up saying "wait i will try and get the best deal for you" then exaust myself trying to do it for them. maybe we should just let others do it themselves, very difficult though, don't like it when other get overcharged either xxxxxxlost 9 stone since Feb 2011

Lovely, lovely, lovely!!! I haven't seen either of these designs and I've been looking cos it was the Terracotta spots that was mentioned before that was going cheap but I haven't found one ... yet.
Did the spotty/dotty one that you scanned have an cream/white base and an outline around each spot? If so that sounds like the 'terracotta'.
The other spotty one (which I have my eye on) is called 'circus' and that's diff coloured pastel spots. I also have my eye on the duck egg (i.e. pale blue) and white stars cloth ... but both have been scanning at full price for me. Good to hear they're on the way down
Many thanks scarlini
BTW I'm assuming this was an Extra?0 -
Morning all
Just going to make a bit of bacon on toast if anyone wants some
Fudge-cake sorry to hear about yesterday with GrandFather hope today brings a better day for you.
SpiralingDown I think a phone call to Customer services is needed. I made a call the other day to confirm with them if DTD is their policy why there is a problem with their staff not giving it straight away and why it takes a number of people and 20 minutes of my time to agreed to it. Got a letter of apology yesterday along with gift card.
I'll share a bacon butty with you! Not had one of then for ages.................:p:j rolo-polo1965 :j0
