Freedom Talk

Is anyone else having problems connecting to the internet with Freedom Talk mobile broadband?

I haven't had any problems with this until yesterday evening when my computer wouldn't connect to the internet. It's showing as connecting to the 3 network but it isn't actually connecting to the internet. My daughter is also having the same problem.

I really need to use the internet for job searches, applications etc and don't have a smart phone.

  • Yes, same problem, eventually I got this message in the broswer when I tried to use the internet:
Sorry, there is a slight technical glitch.
If you try again now, this service should work. In the unlikely case it doesn't, please try again later. Sorry for the inconvenience. (503)
Retrying made no difference, so I replaced the Freedom Talk sim in the dongle with a genuine 3 sim (I'd left a small allowance on my old 12GB 12 month preloaded sim in case I exceeded Freeedom's 3GB per month limit) and internet is up and running again. Swapped back and re-tried, Freedom still doesn't work. Back on 3 again now. I don't think I've used anything like 3GB on the Freeedom sim.
  • That was the message I was getting.

I emailed the seller of the SIM who said they'd been in touch with Freedom Talk and that there was an activation problem which was now sorted.

But, before I received that reply I phoned Freedom Talk (0844 357 9444) and gave the guy my number (which was on the card with the SIM) and he said that it would be working within half an hour to an hour. I got home about an hour later and it was working.

I've read that Freedom Talk are hoping to bring in a dashboard similar to 3 so that you can check usage. I knew I hadn't used 3GB!

Is there a problem with freedomtalk, card can't find a signal, anyone else having problems??
  • Yes I'm having problems as well, I noticed I had "no service" on my IPad on Friday. I emailed Freedom talk to report the fault but no reply as of now.
I bought my sim on EBay from a1techstore about 3 weeks ago for £27.50 which gave me 3gb a month for 6 month I now notice they are selling the same item for £128.88.
    Something smells fishy to me.
  • Theres a thread on hotukdeals about this problem.
Mine went off last sunday 8 days ago then came back on tuesday and since then nothing.
Have emailed seller a1techstore but i bought mine in january and since i had a 3 month sim card to use up i only activated mine on april 1st but because i bought it in january i cannot claim back money from paypal since its over 45 days ago

Hopefully freedom talk will put things right but they havent replied to me since thursday so hopefully they are just having a holiday and will sort it soon :(

My access went away on Friday morning, 6th. If I have the Freedom sim in my dongle, I don't even get a green network connection. I wondered if I'd used up my monthly usage, so I waited until yesterday which was the start of a new month, and it's still not back. I can log in to the 'usage' web site and it correctly shows 3000Mb available for the new month, but any of the other links I tried (add new ticket, contact us) just return me to the login screen.

I will email a1techstore as well, see what they have to say. I wouldn't expect a reply over bank holiday weekend.

I've now had to buy another tenner on the 3 SIM so I wonder how far I'll get with an extension on the period I've paid for?

My daughter's internet connection went off Saturday lunchtime and mine about 4pm - I'd only put it in my dongle half an hour before!

I've messaged a1 techstore on ebay and emailed them too. I've also phoned Freedom Talk 3 times, each time with them promising to phone back but still waiting for a call.

Last time I was getting the same message as MikeSuffolk (post #2) but this time I'm just getting 'No Service' on the 3 connection screen.

There's a blog here with an update on the 10th April saying that lots of people have been complaining.

I've had to top up an old 3 sim card which is money I shouldn't have had to pay out

If I don't hear anything from a1 techstore or Freedom Talk tomorrow I'm going to open an ebay dispute.

I messaged a1 techstore about that before I bought my first Freedom Talk sim card and they replied saying that they put that price (ie adding £100 to the price) temporarily when the cards are out of stock. I suppose it means that they can keep the ebay listings going but the price would put off potential buyers.

I got a response from a1techstore when I emailed them directly, saying that there's a technical problem that Freedom are trying to sort out. In fairness they did say I could return the SIM and they'd refund me for any time/data not used, I'm hanging on for a few days in case it comes back.

A few things annoy me about this - first and foremost, there's nothing on the Freedomtalk website that suggests there's a problem even when I log into "My Freedom". Also the 'add ticket' and 'contact us' buttons don't work on the site, and you can't login from a smartphone because the screen doesn't scroll.

I'm relieved to see the high price for the cards now is just because of a stock thing rather than the new price, though I didn't think they'd sell many when it's "only" £90 for six months/3Gb per month direct from 3.
