My tuppence worth - the forum looks lovely ......... on my Touchpad.
*shhh* I've changed it to stretchy and less bright on my laptop as my head was hurtingMartin, the fixed width wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for a chunk of that limited width being taken up with (no offence intended) the guff down the right hand side.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Now shoot me down if you wish but may I suggest a compromise? What about changing the template of the 'showthread.php' page to remove the 'guff' thus increasing readable space? The 'guff' only takes up a small proportion of the page yet the impact is immense.
Oh and someone has left a pair of fishnets running behind Martin's head0 -
If the forum posts stetched to the end of the white panel on the right then it would be fine for me personally, but it's just that bit too narrow. You need that extra inch or so. All the blokes will know what I'm talking about.0

Ugh! what have you done?! Everything has shrunk. I can't post a screenshot but I'm seeing the site as much smaller in the middle of the page with a huge white border around it. I can barely see each board. Firefox and Vista.4.30: conduct pigeon orchestra...0

If you hate fixed width, you have an option to change it
We would ask you to try it for a week. Yet if you really can't stomach it you can revert it - the option can be found under your User CP option > Edit Options > Scroll down to the "Miscellaneous Options" area and look for the option labelled "Forum Skin" > Change it to "New masthead, stretchy".
thanks for the option to change it,
& sorry, but didn't like it one bitplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

This isn't an MSE on its own - actually we've been in the minority a long time.
I accept some won't like it. I would ask you to try it. Yet if you hate it choose the stretchy option. We can't say fairer than allowing you to choose.
I have no problem with fixed width as a default
though I could never use it as my default! (appreciate its good for standards and smaller screens)
The forum I help mod on has the layouts as an option at the bottom of every page,as well as in the options
exact same drop down box but down the bottom
one to consider?
not much has changed at the top for me,so no real issues either way.
its very bright in the main forum body, maybe a bit bright for me but my eyes are a bit more sensitive these days after an eye injury.
don't know how others feel0 -
I'm running win 7 and FF 9.0.1, I'm getting the left bar as its full width always, and the right bar is sometimes full and sometimes goes to half its width - stretching it out a little.
I'm not a fan - Its hurting my eyes, and causing a headache, which triggers seizures, so I'm not going to be able to stay on it for a week, so appreciate the alternative option
E2A: I am also having issues with the hover on thread titles. Where a long url is included it is covering the whole screen, ie over the borders too, but also over everything else, so I am struggling to get the mouse off hover mode (ooo felt like a pilot for a minute then lol) I'm sure it didn't 'take over' quite so much before :S
anyway, ironing is always the last bit of the washing process, so sure the web team will be taking creases out of stuff for a bitcake and sambuka for ironing

I hate my forum being in the middle of the page and having a blank column down the left hand side?0

I am not seeing any of the problems that you guys are complaining about but can I ask?
Am I the only person that has this problem with the new header?0 -
Hello,
Just a quick note to those of you who have seen their green tick (entered) icons vanished from the forum display page (where you see the threads). Please can you let me know what operating system and browser you are using. So that I can try and replicate the problem. Thank you.
Ian
Ticks appear normally for me using Chrome & IE9 on both forum display and in search results. It could well have been just a start-up problem and they will appear OK if users exit fully and log back in.
I don't really care either way about the look of fixed width/stretchy, but my finger is getting tired and the scroll wheel is wearing out on my mouse due to the increased scrolling needed with fixed width.
TIP - You can go into "User CP" and turn off people's signatures - saves a heck of a lot of scrolling down.
