disrespectful current tennants

I'd hope the agent would refund your train ticket for messing you around like that!!
(or view the flat, offer them £2200, then change your mind at the last minute and go with another one!)0 -
The OP has used an interesting header for this thread. The current Ts may well view the LA and potential new Ts as "disrespectful" for pushing them on viewings.
Their tenancy affords them exclusive occupation of the property which is their home for the duration, and they may have other things going on in their own lives which made that original appointment difficult for them to keep to.
As others have said, make appointments to see several places and stay over.0 -
THIS IS NEVER GOING TO END IS IT?
Just got another call from the letting agent. The land lord WILL NOW RENT TO ME if I pay list price, but ONLY if I sign THIS WEEK. So now I'm going back on Friday to view the place.
They're doing this on purpose, they must be.0 -

You could ask him to pay for your out of pocket expenses first, but my sense is walk away.
If the LL / EA mucks around a prospective tenant like this, imagine how they will respond when you need an emergency repair or to negotiate an early release date from the lease!
Walk away0 -
If they said jump, would you ask how high?
Call them. Get them to take a holding deposit pending your viewing, to take it off the market. Completely
And change your title from disrespectful tenants to incompetent letting agent
Make sure they won't be managing the property during your tenancy. They can't seem to manage anything.0 -
A holding deposit taken from the OP will probably mean nothing other than more money that the OP has to cough up before getting anywhere near this property.
LL can still offer the property to someone else. No-one should pay a holding deposit without (a) seeing the tenancy agreement and (b) seeing the property itself.0 -
I'd personally be wary of any agency who was so disorganised, and who messed me about so much before the tenancy had even begun. Sounds like they'll be a nightmare to rent from, however nice the property is.0

oh boy oh boy oh boy.
So I had an appointment re-arranged for today, bought my tickets. ONCE AGAIN they've pulled out, this time same issue as the first time, tenant refuses to let the viewing take place.
re-arranging for monday now. starting to think I'm on a hidden camera show. 3 times so far.0 -
I'd recommend you either find a small/private hotel at £25-30/night and plan to live there for the first 2 weeks while sorting out a place of your own, or using these "short term rentals" sites where householders rent out their room for a few nights - quite a few take bookings for a few weeks, so you could easily move into one of those for a month while you look around. You'd also get a local's view on where you were looking. Places like crashpadder etc.
Much better than dashing around on viewings as viewing any property is a nightmare trying to arrange even if you're 1-2 miles away as agents can't make it, or it's gone before you view it, or they don't show up.0
