I used to work for the Dogs trust when it was known as the canine defence years ago . I could not believe the way this person /manager behaved and I have made a complaint. I had to tell the person who came to collect the dog that she had an injured back leg .. She was not told about any injury.
I have to phone tomorrow to register an interest as it will be 7 days... fingers crossed .. I really want to give this girl a decent home.

Its not illegal & what they told you was a load of bull. If you dont get this one keep going back every couple of days. Its not far from your house.....

    ;)

    Happy New Year.

Just to put the record straight as its only fair
I have had a reply today and after further investigation by the manager it seems the information I was given about when the dog was treated was incorrect. She was in fact treated at 5pm once she had been collected by the Warden. :)
There was another dog that was seen by the vet at 1am that was pulled out of a canal and it was just a mix up.
So a big thanks to the manager for taking my concerns seriously and getting back to me.
Hi ya RFR .. Happy New Year to you too .. nice to see you back :D

    Pets.....
Sam, first dog. Didnt get on with the others so came to my family and lived a happy life.
Snowie, border/sheltie cross. Lived with a house of 3 males bigger dogs and got impregnated. Had puppies and lived til she wa 19 and died in my dad's arms.
Sheba, near pure GSD. In an RSPCA kennel and mum fell in love. Soppy as anything but VERY protective - would let my niece sleep on her and play with her all the time. She used to sleep with me when I had my breakdown and hd many nightmares. Still miss her even now.
Milly - Patterdale. Mum's companion after Sheba went, stoped my mum's depression getting bad, but definitely mad as a box of frogs.

    Cats:
Socks - half feral black and white cat that ran away one day.
Semma - haf blind, enlarged heart and kidneys. he had a good retirement with mum, dad and us bunch - loved my school bag cos it smelt of mint and she used to sleep in it.

    Rats:
Sneezles and Eric + mum's 2.: got from someone we knew who had a litter. Sneezles was as docile as anything and would sit on your shoulder all day long nibbling hair and hiding. Eric was a bit of a bruiser and used to bully Sneezles so we separated them. All 4 died of old age.
Sasha and Tasha - two black and white Berkshires from P@H. Saw them, fell in love and they have repaid me ever since. Both bonkers and have obsessions - groomin you, nose in the ear/mouth, nibbling dead skin, trying to eat keys off keyboards....

All of thm have been a bit of chosen us or we chose them - but we made good choices :D

We chose our current dog (Chino the Tibetan terrier) but as a teenager we had a bearded collie who chose us.

The whole family went to the breeder when the litter of pups were around 4 weeks old to chose the one we wanted. They had been given a bowl of porridge just before we arrived and they all ignored us except for one puppy that came over, sniffed at my mum and left a trail of porridge up her leg. She was THE one. The hardest thing was waiting another 5 weeks to take her home.

She was a gorgeous dog :A and I still miss her.

We decided we wanted a dog, thought we'd take an older, short haired, dark haired, small, calm, ugly !!!!! (female dog in case of censor).

We checked out the kibbutz "zoo" since lots of dogs get abandoned here since people know they get looked after (some even try and treat it as a pet sitting service, they lost their dog, and rightly so). Nothing suitable, we asked the guy who works there to keep an ear open for anything.

He calls us, there's a family nearby that took in a small ball of fluff that got older. We visit, we see a big, long haired, white, hyperactive, handsome male puppy tied up in the yard since they couldn't take him. Love at first sight, took him away with us straight away. My dads a dog trainer, and I know my stuff, so he's now reasonably controllable, calm as anything inside (thankfully) and a good dog in his nature, so even when he doesn't obey everything, his heart is pure and he doesn't get in trouble really.

The cat was born in the cupboard at the bottom of the stairway, to our downstairs neighbours cat. Her mother made our dog scared of going out, since there was a monster that kept attacking him (she was vicious). As the kittens got older, they came out to play, and a few of them fell in love with the dog, started to chase after him and come upstairs to visit (with the mum too, still distrustful of the dog, but accepting). The best fun was playing with a laser pointer with the kittens chasing the laser, the dog chasing the kittens, and the mother chasing him :rotfl: .

Anyway, the black female decided to stick around, so I guess she's more the dogs than ours, but there we go. (The mother by the way calmed down with him so much that even whilst she'd attack any dog in a 20 meter radius with her next little, she let him sniff the kittens only a day or so after they were born).

So here's the dog that chose us, and the cat that chose him.

  • Domino (our little JRT) came to us aged one, we have just lost out beloved border collie Ben and I swore i'd never have another border collie. I mentioned to a good friend that I'd like a JRT, one week later she called me to say she knew of one that needed a home. Apparently he was a working dog who loved it so much he used to escape all the time and go off ratting all by himself. Local farmers were threatening to shoot him, as although he wasn't attacking any of their animals he was obviously upsetting them as he flew along looking for rats!! I wasn't sure, but went to see him anyway - fatal.
He came home with us, never had a collar or lead on and was terrified of DH, scooted around the perimeter of the room to get away. A week in and I come home to DH and Domino playfighting on the bed and causing absolute mayhem:D. We atteneded dog training classes with him - came top of the class:T, have done agility and flyball with him and he's the best hot water bottle ever.

Bobby, the rottweiller chose us, we'd been to a fun day at the local Dogs Trust and had seen a lovely rottie. Unfortunately he was not good with small dogs. The next week DD pointed out a local breeder selling some pups, went to see them, Blobs came running over to us and just gazed up with his beautiful brown eyes and that was that:D

Fly, the border collie ( I know, I know I said I'd never have another:o). It was DD's 16th birthday and she nagged and nagged and nagged about getting a BC so she could do some agility.Much to DH disgust we rang around a couple that were advertised, saw three litters, but something was just missing. The final advert we responded to had just sold all her pups but her neighbour had a litter just born.

We contacted them, visited and immediately fell in love with a little sable coloured dog. We saw mum and dad, farm working dogs. Paid a deposit and went back every week to see him.

7 weeks later he arrived home, terrified Bob and delighted Domino and generally causing havoc. For all his intelligence he was one of the hardest dogs I have ever known to toilet train.

3 years later you can see him at Crufts this year competing with DD at Flyball, after only 7 months training:T:T
Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.
  • We chose Susie, over 25 years ago. Mum and Dad had just split up, and Dad was the only reason we didn't have a dog, so we(Mum, me, brother and sister) went to the RSPCA, in the days b4 all the home visits and indepth interviews. Looked down both sides of kennels, Mum was careful to steer us past the litter of puppies on the way down, but on the way back up we spotted them. At the back of this kennel was Susie, put with the Mum and puppies because she was so laid back. She was sat there quiet, head to one side, as if she was saying 'about time'! Took her home, she was approx 18 months old. She was brilliant, PTS at approx 16 yo.

Lucy, chosen at Manchester Home for Lost Dogs, approx 9.5 years ago. 15 months old when we got her. Chosen on the Susie principle; sat quiet, with other dogs, laid back, just looking at us. Another brilliant dog, loyal, just obedient enough!

Both crossbreeds, proper heinz variaties, definitely had terrier in them, just very unsure which kind and what else.

We went to the local rescue centre and it was puppy playtime. One yard and 23 puppies of all shapes and sizes!! They charged towards us and within minutes we were surrounded, climbed upon, scratched, wee'd upon (a little!)and generally deafened by the noise. Then we noticed one little puppy hiding behind her bed poking her nose out. OUr hearts melted and within seconds we knew this was the pup for us. Took her home the same day and she proved she was anything but the quiet little girl we had seen! Would not change a thing even tho she did cost us a fortune when we realised she was allergic to grass!!!!!
