Mutt 1 was a mistake. Someone knew my mum was thinking of getting a dog, asked her if she wanted a terrier, she was thinking jack russell type size and then this large ugly thing strolled into the house and onto her lap, she was too scared of her (initially) to shove her off and that was it. Inseperable for the next 10 years.
When she died I was sold on english bull terriers so went looking for mutt number 2. Couldn't be a pup, mother refused point blank to have a white one which ruled out most EBT's so we ended up at the breed rescue. I had a choice of a perfectly behaved well trained with full past history male, or scrawny picked up off the streets no past history half bald (mange) mutt.
Head said male dog. Heart said "but she's the spitting image of mutt 1". Heart won, and I acquired an antisocial untrained power chewer with an evergrowing collection of expensive ongoing ailments. Temperament wise she is the exact opposite of mutt 1. And I wouldn't be without her. :D
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Sortov. After much discussion, OH and I went to see a Border Terrier breeder. There were 3 girls + one boy. Our Scrabble just shuffled onto our hand and fell asleep there! In fact, this was our v. first photo:

And now, 14 weeks later, she looks like this:

I was heart set on getting a labrador. I found a reputable breeder and was saving up for one from her next litter, expecting to have to wait a couple of years.

I started looking at rescues, thinking I'd help out, do some walking and training and get the practise in for when we got our own dog.

There was a little, white face looking up at me and I was completely smitten. Went to see him the next day, home visit a couple of days later and he stayed at the end of the visit.

He is without doubt the best thing that has happened to me since we had our kids. We go out together for a couple of hours every day and I can charge up the hills round here whereas before I had to keep stopping for breath. I spend time training him every day and it's so rewarding when he knows exactly what I want him to do and enjoys showing me how good he is at it. My husband tells me he gets up off the sofa before I've even appeared on our street. He knows I'm nearby. His little face appears through the catflap when I arrive at the back door.

    I'm completely smitten.

(I can type the rest of this without crying i know i can ....) I had her for eleven years and she was my best friend and companion. We competed obedience, agility, flyball and trials very successfully. I miss her so much, even after nearly 7 years. .. I can't believe its been that long ..... And if i had one wish it would be to have her back again.
I don't know if you managed to type it without crying, but I didn't manage to read it without crumpling. :A

I have loved English Bull Terriers since I was a kid, my mum always said no because she thought they were ugly! When I moved out 2 years ago I saw someone was trying to rehome their 16 month old EBT as their other dog was attacking him. And that's how I got Bully! He is spoilt rotten and everyone loves him..even my mum!! :) xx

I have been looking for a dog for 3 months .
Last week we visited the dogs trust in our area .. yet again and no luck
As we came out there was a beautiful Choc Lab in a builders truck blocking us in. This was about 3pm
He had picked the dog up ..5 month old female and brought it to the dogs home as a stray
She is beautiful .. not microchipped but manager of dogs trust insisted she should be picked up by the dog warden for that area ASAP as they' don't take strays' and it was negotiable whether the dog came under Worcestershire or Gloucestershire'
Turns out that this little lady had multiple fractures in her hind leg and was not treated until 1am after she was collected by the correct dog warden for the area..
I am furious .. I offered there and then to take her to a vet to get immediate treatment , but was told by this manager that this would be illegal.
Its now 6 days later and tommorow I will phone the dogs home in Gloucestershire to register my interest .. (phoned )today and no one has claimed her This little dog is the one for me

Not a good advert for dogs trust. :( A lot of rescues won't take strays. That's a disgrace given the amount of strays there are out there.

I used to work for the Dogs trust when it was known as the canine defence years ago . I could not believe the way this person /manager behaved and I have made a complaint. I had to tell the person who came to collect the dog that she had an injured back leg .. She was not told about any injury.
I have to phone tomorrow to register an interest as it will be 7 days... fingers crossed .. I really want to give this girl a decent home.

    my boy definitely chose me.

there were only 2 boys left of the litter. one mad crazy pup made a beeline for me and i picked him up. he snuggled into my chest and was calm and lovely. the other one was more interesting in playing with his brothers and sisters.

so he chose me. he is snoozing and snoring right next to me now 6 years later and i can honestly say he is the love of my life and the best decision i ever made.

your next dog will chose you i am sure x
