Good morning all...wow what a morning..lots of snow..had to dig out the chicken pen or they won't come out..pampered thats what they are..
SM and MLW.. glad you find my chicken break out amusing..lol..it was funny..the gate got blown open and of course sensing freedom they went for it..and somehow they made it to the front garden..that would be number 1 son not closing the gates properly...anyhoo i just happened to see movement in front garden and i could not believe my eyes...i ran out and grabbed 2 and the 3rd just sat down at my feet..thankfully my neighbour saw me and got the 3rd one..we took them back and closed the gate..i then saw the bolshey one make a bid for freedom in the corner of my garden,we have a built up rockery..she was on that and b*gger me she flew over the fence...i had to do my Usain Bolt impression and leg it after her..i managed the fence and grabbed her..popped her back over..then as i was climbing back into my garden her bloody head popped up again...my neighbour got her in the nick of time...she has had an attitude with me ever since..mind you i would rather wrangle chickens than huge great heffers...think i would have got trampled or ran away screaming lol...
MLW..ooh i bet the pictures will be amazing..and skiiing too..wow..i can't manage to get from top of the road to bottom without tripping in the snow let alone on ski's...
Right here is the KFC recipe..
Chicken breast or pieces up to you pop them into a bowl of milk for about 30 minutes.
While they are soaking prepare coating.
    half teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of mortons season all salt
    three quarter teaspoon of pepper
    1 cup of flour
    2 teaspoons of paprika
mix it all together in a bowl.
Heat oven to 400 degrees..or gas mark 6
Melt some butter in a baking dish in the oven when its covered the pan its ready..
Then shake excess milk of chicken and dip in mix...cover it completely..
put into pan and cook for 20 mins on 1 side then turn over and cook for another 20 or until you know its cooked through..
    and enjoy..

Second tried and tested recipe for slow cooked leftover rice. This is totally amazing and went down very well...also i cooked my rice to start with so it wasn't left over . A very good dish thats quick and tasty.
2 cups of rice already cooked..your choice i used brown, plus i put 3 cups in as i thought it looked a bit small.
    3 tablespoons of butter.
2 tablespoons of soy sauce i used dark gave it more colour and flavour.
half a teaspoon of black pepper.
    quarter teaspoon of salt.
    half an onion chopped nicely
1 cup of frozen mixed veg
    1 egg.
thats it..place it all in your slow cooker and cook on low for 3-4 hours..stir it occasionally..but leave it alone..i did worry about the rice sticking to bottom but the butter makes it nice and moist so it doesn't...
so there you go 2 lovely recipes for you to try...
Right go to go and start school...see you all later.

I decided to treat myself a little..me and the tots had a pamper night last night..i gave them a little pedicure and manicure..also myself too...we all have lovely pink sparkly nails todays...was so nice to just sit and laugh with them..very refreshing.
Fern has taken over bedtime reading...she picks a book and sits in bed with Iris and reads to her,,it brought tears to my eyes to her them laughing and talking about the book..she is so grown up..
Sam has had a great birthday..he got a new mp3 from me and his dad..some lovely HM cookies from Fern and Iris..plus his huge choclate flake birthday cake..i think that maybe my signature cake as i was specifically asked to make it for him and also Andrea..
We all had lovely beef goulash and creamy mash potatoes for tea..followed by birthday cake..which the tots insisted i put 19 candles on and we had to sing Happy Birthday to him as well...bless him...

  • Evening FTM and all the littlies even if some of them are 19 and +!!!!How lovely is Fern reading to Iris? brings a tear to my eyes, but a happy one, what an excellent job you are doing of the home schooling my dear, look how they grow in confidence, look at how they enjoy life now, you definately made the right choice there, I am just delighted for you all. So glad that DSs birthday was so enjoyable and frankly have a huge dose of envy over the cake, it sounds delicious!!! It has been very cold here today, the wind has been cruel but I suspect nothing compared to the wind where you are, we have no snow but it has been sleeting all afternoon. Hope the tots (and you) are enjoying the snow still but, it will be nice when spring finally arrives this year, this morning I found the first wild violets in bloom on the edge of the common, so there is no doubt spring will be here soon, look after yourselves and stay warm, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Hi all...hope your all ok..
MLW...thank you..yes i am beggining to think i really did do the right thing with the tots...Fern's confidence is growing and the worried little girl is slowly disappearing from view...
Yes the cake was a success..he took the rest into college this morning for his mates..how sad is it that some of them never get a birthday cake...or even HM cookies...i am not judging anyone but i do find it sad..anyway the box came back empty...glad they enjoyed it.
Surprise surprise the snow has all gone not one flake left..it rained all night...and its sunny and lovely outside..very muddy though..but you can't have everything .
O i love violets..they are my fave little flowers..along with the snowdrops..i do wish spring would hurry and get here though...it seems to have been a long winter..
you take care and keep warm
    love

  • Hi FTM it's been so beautiful here today sunny and warm, just a joy to be outside. When DD1 and I walked the boy this afternoon we sat by the harbourmasters tower on the river and watched the boats coming in on the high tide, all white sails and sparkly water, it was georgeous!!! We saw primroses in full bloom today and the earliest willow is in bloom with fluffy catkins right at the tops of the trees, we found a bank full of celandines like little gold stars and the camellias are in bloom all through the village it really feels like spring is here, the air smells of green!!!!!

Well done on the cake being such a success with Dss college friends, a real accolade to your culinary skills, take care of yourselves, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Evening all. I've finally made it back - I've definitely been MIA for a while now. I just can't shake off this dreadful cold and it's gone south to my chest so it looks like I will be forced to book an appointment with my GP (apparently I need to give 2 weeks notice!) to get some antibiotics. I'd been hoping some spring like weather would cure it however doesn't seem to be working:(

I've also had my laptop die on me so I'm typing this from the teeny, tiny netbook while I get the proper one fixed and my mobile phone finally expired on me too. Just seems to be one thing after another right now.

Glad everyone seems to be doing well. FTM - thanks for the KFC recipe, certainly one which I will be trying soon. I batch cooked some macaroni cheese today as Mr A had Pilgrims Choice cheddar at a good price and I also made a huge Queen of Puddings which went to mum's for dinner tonight and was polished off very quickly. I have about 4 big ziplock bags of breadcrumbs in the freezer as I got some whoopsied bred at some stage so it seemed like a good use for one of them.

My big news though is that I have 3 snowdrops and 10 crocuses starting to flower in the new orchard area. I also have about 6 tiny dwarf irises which are beautiful. I was so excited this morning when I saw them. When hubby planted the bulbs I said I wanted them to be random - well they certainly are random and I have no idea what I'm going to see next but at least there is some sign of life which I'm thrilled about. There are also around 100 shoots which I think will be daffodils so we should have a nice display at some point!

It was nice enough to dry some towels outside today which was another bonus and a sign winter may be leaving us within the next month - long may the onset of spring continue!
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • Hello SM sorry you're feeling poorly, hope you get some nice warm weather soon and can shake off your horrible cold. Your bulb planting in the autums sounds to be a great success, give them a couple of seasons and they will be bright blocks of colour, lovely!!!
Let's hope this year is a better one than last weather wise and that we have some nice healthy crops to harvest at the end of it. look after yourself, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Hi all...
SM hope your getting better hun..its not nice to be poorly...hugs coming your way from us all....o do try the KFC it is now a firm family favourite along with the rice.

MLW..o wow you made me so envious with your day and seeing all the lovely flowers..you are so lucky...

Well we have had a few lovely bright clear days..cold but lovely..
I have made a start on the garden..weeded what i could and planted some bulbs..also made some laundry liquid and have ordered Borax to make some laundry powder..i got lots of it so hopefully it will last a while..

We went into town today...it was soo nice to have a look around.
Hubby treated us to lunch in our fave cafe..very nice and not that expensive..the girls loved it and i think they felt a bit grown up as they ordered their own food..was sweet of hubby...Thank you.XX
We had a look around the shops and didn't spend hardly anything..which is amazing..much more satisfied with life i think.
I did buy a beautiful hyacinth..that is currently in my living room..looking fab and scenting the air..lovely.
We went CS shopping...not much in them to be honest but we enjoy looking...i did buy a lovely hand knitted blanket..all in pastel squares it really is pretty..it was a few pounds but worth it for the love and attention that went into it.
The girls got a treat..we took them to a sweet shop that sells just about every sweet you can think of...we were ages in there...in the end they decided on strawberry bon bons..and me and hubby had some too...lovely, just have to watch my temporary crown lol.
Well hubby is doing homemade chips for tea with a fried egg i think..the smell is wafting through from the kitchen.
Going to put my feet up tonight..i have done my ironing and won't have to do it later..so choccy bar, book, feet up tonight is my treat.
    love you all

  • Hi FTM it sounds as if you have had such a lovely day together, you are such a lovely happy family it makes me happy to read about your trip. How nice to have someone write they are satisfied with the life they have, it is heart warming and so refreshing when all around are folks bemoaning their lot in life, thank you for being you!!! Your hyacinth sounds beautiful, I love the scent but it makes me sneeze so I can't have them indoors but I have lots in the garden to enjoy later on when they bloom. Your knitted blanket sounds so pretty too and I can just imagine the girls faces in the sweetie shop, it must have been lovely to see. Enjoy your well earned evening off with book and choc bar, look after yourselves, Cheers Lyn xxx.
