  • HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE, I wish you all the best things that life has to offer and then Icing!!!!!!!! Love Lyn xxx.
  • Happy New Year all. I hope it has been uneventful and peaceful so far. Hubby and I have both picked up a bit of a cold however we are still in the sunshine so it makes the sniffling a bit more bearable.

I've lapsed into my bad habit of gathering recipes from newspapers and magazines so I have a handful already which are in the bottom of the suitcase so hubby doesn't see them. He can't understand why I don't just email the recipe to myself and transfer it to my handwritten book when I get home but for some reason I alway feel the need to keep the proper copy until I've made it at least once. No logic whatsoever but that's me sometimes:o

Off to watch my favourite home and diy tv channel for a while as hubby has dozed off and left the remote unattended!

  • Hi SM - It's been dull and grey here but not actually raining, so, much to be grateful for so far in 2013!!! Hope you are enjoying the USA to the full and having a great time out there. Poor you with the colds but hopefully they will clear quickly. Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Just popping in to say . I'm on the dying days of my trip so will be back to the cold and damp soon (just in time for a weather warning in my home territory!)

Hope everyone is well and getting through those horrible post Christmas and New Year days. On the positive side the days must be lengthening out now so spring must be within sight.................

  • Hello SM hope you don't have problems getting back. the weather looks as if it's going to pretty wild in most places over the next few days. It is currently very cold and very wet here in Hampshire and the weather forecasts don't seem to be agreeing with each other on the TV so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Post christmas days are not so bad, it's rather nice to get back to normal routine again and prepare and eat non fancy food again. Have a lovely last few days in the US and look forward to hearing from you when you're home again. Safe journey, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • Well, back to normality with a bump. It's a shade colder here than I've been used to so I've spent the last few days huddled at the radiator! I'm hoping the snow predictions are wrong as I'm far too busy to deal with that, I have lots to do over the weekend and it would really hamper things:)
I suppose the cold may help keep the germs at bay as I sometimes think they fester and breed when it's not quite so cold.

While we were away we were told about a webcam which has been set up to watch some little bald eagle chicks which hatched on Jan 1st and 3rd - this is the link. I've been well and truly hooked, as has hubby, I have spent hours just watching them. They may not be the prettiest but I am totally captivated by them.

I just popped in to say I'm back - off to deal with some mending now and I will be back over the weekend. Hope you are all having a good week.

  • Hello SM welcome home - I hope you don't get too much of the white stuff where you are, we are currently cold and damp but not snowing at the moment. I wonder what each of us will wake up to tomorrow, we are at the extemes of the Uk so it will be interesting to compare notes!!! Hope you had a nice holiday, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Hi everyone ..i hope your all ok?..wow what a lot of snow we have here and more to come..weird but the girls don't want to play in it..they are content to watch it falling.
We have been busy doing bits and bobs..i have re arranged my dining room and made it more schoolish..i have created a reading corner..a small rug and a little bookcase, plus i have splurged and bought some wooden letters that spell R E A D and have painted them and hung up over the bookcase..its very cosy and girls love it.
I have made some laminated little number and alphabet books for Iris to draw on and we can wipe them clean after..i spent about £7 on some chalkboard fablon..i put it on the wall and its great..we draw on it and then wipe it off...
I have joined pinterest and made my own little board..not very big but the things on it i have done and plan to do..
Hubby and i are currently torn..we miss our beloved patch and just don't feel ready for a puppy yet..we seem to be getting pressure from older girls..who think its not right we don't have a dog around..have had to put my foot down and say no...they only fliiping arranged without our knowledge a puppy viewing..was so angry..i told them we had patch for 15 yrs..he was part of us and i cannot just replace him..they have been conspicuos in their absence this week..been very quiet though haha..lol..
I have just this week done a shop first since middle of december..was proud of myself for lasting so long...
I have been on *bay and bought some bits and bobs..some fake flower wreaths and seeds for planting..
Got some lovely books and cardigans from the CS..10p a book and 50p per woolen item..came home with quite a few books for girls and myself..plus some cardigans for them absolute beauties..all from next..
Have been eating up freezer contents..found some more rabbit and a small pheasant..i didn't tell anyone what it was and they ate it...even got asked for more...

  • Hello FTM I hope the snow doesn't get to be too much of a problem in your neck of the woods, the forecast looked horrendous but you never can tell how accurate they are. We had little snow but it was very cold and what snow did fall soon got compacted on the pavements and became very icy. Yesterday we had most of the day just above freezing so it thawed slightly and the pavements cleared. Walking the boy was much easier today but he is a nightmare in the cold, I have to unstick his nose from the ground every other step, I swear I hear a pop as his nostrils come away!!!!! I was so sorry to hear about Patch and I think you will know when the time is right to get another friend. You need time to remember and get used to the idea that he isn't there now. You will get up one day and think OK we need to get a new friend, it will come when the time is right and you'll be found by a lovely new pup who you'll love for its own self and not as a replacement.

DD2 is making all the invitations and place settings and favours for her wedding, they think they have found a venue that will be able to take the numbers she has in mind and have found a celeidh band that they will try to book for the evening, she has just phoned and is talking bridesmaids dresses and is going to visit big sis as there is a retro shop where she lives that makes the most beautiful 50s style dresses with shaped busts and waists and full skirts over a net underskirt which would be spot on for the look she wants, exciting times indeed!!!

Well done not having to shop until now, really good planning that is and your CS bargains sound super, take care of yourselves and you too stay warm in all this cold, stay in touch, Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • FTM - sorry to hear about Patch. 10 years on I'm still not ready for a replacement for my little JR although I suspect that has more to do with the practicalities of jetting of across the pond a couple of times a year:o

Surprisingly we have very little snow here. Just a skiff although it has now frozen crispy over the top which is dangerous. I was really shocked to hear there had been an avalanche in Glencoe. Although it's obviously a ski resort I tend to think of avalanches as being something that happens in the Swiss Alps, not right here in Scotland.

It is very cold though so I felt the need to make soup. Had a big soup pot and some stovies bubbling away while I made meringues in the afternoon. The heat from the cooker and oven certainly kept the kitchen warm:)

I'm using up lots of bits and bobs and will be avoiding doing much food shopping until the cupboards/freezer etc are bare. I think it's time to go completely back to bare shelves and then build up again. I'm only buying milk, bread, fruit etc however I'm appalled at how much the basic stuff has rocketed in price since before Christmas. Feels like everyone is out for a pound of flesh!

I've just remembered I have a tumble dryer full of sheets though which I will need to iron so I best get on with it. It's amazing how I forgot what's in the dryer - don't know if it is because it's in the garage -out of sight, out of mind!
