Monna the Spitfire appeal is partly why we have no top-railings on our garden wall, they were put on after the house was built in 1934 and then removed in the early 1940's. A neighbouring small town had it's "own" spitfire from collections, and a replica now stands on a pole in a park by their coast path.
Mar just regular pink rock or a particular flavour? Will send you a bucketful if you like? What does the RV prefer?
A pottering day today - my bro, SiL & 8y old niece came up on Saturday so we went off to the local park & playground. After tea & Dr Who (from under niece's blanket!) SiL's eldest son & gf arrived from her parents in Belfast en route back to camp near Oxford, so they stayed overnight too. Yesterday, SiL's eldest daughter arrived with her 15m old daughter, so we walked into town (me pushing the pram), through the Winter Gardens, out to the Prom, had lunch and then went on Central Pier. When we got home DGniece spent an hour toddling around after the cat, and trying to get through the cat flap! By the time they all went home I was shattered & went to bed at 9.30pm...DH said I was out like a light when he came up at 10pm

When I hear accounts of such life and death situations from people I know, alot from my Dorset caring days too, I am in absolute awe but it.doesn't sit right with me because it's the entertainment value in that I love to hear what happened. There's something about the whole way of life during WW2 that has me captivated. It's so near to life now but yet so far away.
I am coping just fine today. Everything is stripped bare. A change of plan in that the walls behind the tiles are quite fine so we're getting them skimmed, having upstands and a grey glass splashback behind the hob. I wanted tiles for interest and prettiness and have quibbled over making it look nice and making it long lasting. Looking nice nearly won but I got my.Sensible a head on at the last minute. it will still look nice and this way it shouldn't date.
No nasty surprises so far but electrician is coming later so who knows there. DH and my new neighbour are levelling the floor later, MILs partner set to skim later too. I'm chief tea maker and entertainment... seems in the two months I've lived here folks have cottoned on to my sackless way of thinking and humour. It's fun.

Way to go FUDS, well done!!! It's really lovely to hear you settled and happy with neighbours and friends in your life who make you feel in place in the community and that home IS home. I love what you said about the stove being the thing that makes you feel safe and in control because that's the exact feeling I have about ours and have done since day 1 of its installation. It's there in the wood scavenging too and knowing that the wood to keep us warm and cook our food if necessary is paid for or wombled and waiting to be used and that there won't be a clonker of a bill coming in after we've used it, magic! I'll never take on a house that doesn't have a wood burner or the capacity for us to have one installed, modern builds with only central heating don't even get looked at as I think that is a road I'll not travel. Good luck while the work is in progress M'dear, you'll need every inch of tolerance and gritted teeth that you can muster BUT it will be WORTH IT!0

Fuds A recent decision of mine has been to take out all the ceramic tiles both kitchen and bathroom . I'd already decided to do so in the kitchen but now the lot will be going .
They are quite a cold element despite the heating and here we need as much warmth as possible due to the weather . They're also a pain to clean despite a large and small steam cleaner and too be honest life's too short .
When the neighbours pitch in to help you know you've chosen the right place to put down your roots - well worth the wait!

We're forecast a frost tonight so He Who Knows has been to the allotment and put fleece over our potatoes as they are showing green tops and we've also just fleeced the fig tree I the garden which also has tender green leaves and lots of little figlets that I hope will give us a fair crop this summer and I'd hate to loose them.0

Well it's turning into a lovely evening here in EA after a so so day, the sky seems to be clearing ahead of a forecasted cold night, glad that I left the extra blanket on the bed when it was changed on Friday!
We went over to DB's for lunch today and were planning on going to the football afterwards but I woke up with a stiff, sore neck this morning and sitting on a cramped, plastic seat for a couple of hours didn't appeal so have been listening at home on the radio instead, we won
Easy meal soon of some cold turkey mixed with mayo as have loads of salad bits to eat up ahead of our little trip away to York tomorrow, just going away until Thursday but a change of scene will be much appreciated.
Right, Rosie and Tilly are pleading for a walk, who can resist those big brown eyes, have a nice evening everyone x0 -
I'll tell you who can resist pleading brown eyes Lainey - look no further. We went for a lovely long walk on the beach this morning, the tide was out and there were lots of other dogs to play with and room to run and run and run. When we got back, what did the wretch do? Completely demolished one of my winter boots and started on a shoe that I have only worn once.
Come back Cruella. All is forgiven and I fancy a nice black and white fur coat.

Hi, "Missing Minnie" here:o Easter has come and gone and I don't think I've sat down for two minutes.
We had family for dinner on Friday so I spent the day in the kitchen, looking out at the rain. Saturday I was out for afternoon tea with mum, aunt and cousin and it was so bitterly cold we abandoned plans for a walk round the gardens of the very grand hotel we were visiting. Yesterday was downright miserable and today was mostly spent inside the greenhouse as it was less than 3 degrees outside. To say I'm fed up with the weather would be an understatement!
Have we heard from Hoglet ? There has been a really bad storm in New Zealand - hope she is ok.
Because we had guests on Friday night I recorded Gardeners World so have just watched it. There was a section on hydrangeas which are one of my favourite plants. I would love to have a huge blousy white one but try as I might they will not survive with me. I have blue and deep mauve ones but the whites are elusive. No sooner had I finished watching to when I remembered that my mother had asked me to make meringues for tomorrow as she is having her girlfriends to lunch. They are in the oven now so I guess I will have to get out of bed to turn them off and drop them off en route to work in the morning. Thankfully I have a key. I once dropped off home baking early one morning before mum was up and about so left the tin on the front seat of the farm pick up which was at the back door unlocked. Unfortunately my father went off to market before mum got the text to tell her where the empire biscuits were and he wasn't coming back until well after her guests were gone. She called him though, told him the biscuits were there and he shared them out at the side of the auction ring with the other farmers. Caused much amusement but were very welcome apparently.
Back to work tomorrow for what should be a short week although I have a trip south on Thursday so that will be an early start and a late finish. Will be working from home on Friday which lets me have an extra hour in bed as I have no travel - bliss!0 -
Quick one from me .
