  • Sadly Nell just heard she didn't (nor did any of the internal candidates) get the Head of 6th Form job. She's understandably rather miffed that the school has yet again sucked her into applying for something that they obviously had no intention of giving to her and I think she won't allow herself to be used again in the future. Time she says to gather her resources, not to act in haste and ire but to take a long hard look at what she does have and consider if she will be able to gain enough satisfaction from staying as a Department Head or if she will keep an eye open for an advancement at another school. The headmaster was very nice to her when he broke the news, not very effective at giving her the reasons why she wasn't appointed but very kind!
  • Lyn I am sorry Nell is disappointed.

I worked for the Local Authority for many years and they had a knack of asking employees to apply for internal jobs, but it soon became apparent there was no chance of them being successful, they wanted new blood.

I can understand that, but why put people through the trauma of possibly several interviews when they had no intntion of giving them the job anyway.

This also happened twice to DD1 when she was nursing, but she was eventually successful.

Please tell Nell I am disappointedd for her, she does so much for her school, you do sometimes wonder the more you give the more they take

  • Thanks love, I'll pass on your kindness and she'll appreciate it very much. I think it will make her less likely to continually pick up the slack that she currently does and the school will lose by it but she's feeling a little unloved at the moment and that I can understand. They've come to the mindset that Nell will do anything that needs doing, fix any problems, pick up and deal with all things that go wrong and turn out at last minute every time someone is needed for anything. She's a professional woman who is very good at her job she now has to let them see she's NOT a general dogsbody!!! No longer I feel will she have the good of the school first and foremost in her life!

MrsLW your Nell needs to learn to say "no"! Also, some local authorities need a minimum number of candidates to interview to guarantee the process can happen - that maybe what has happened here.

  • Lesson learned as of today I feel, she's OK but I think she will look with 'different eyes' at all the things other staff and management seem to leave for her to do because they know she will never let anything 'crash and burn' she has always sorted out and stepped in to the breach etc. I think this will make her a little more robust when it comes to looking out for herself in the future.

Hello everyone . I'm still having log in problems - I keep being told I'm signing in on an insecure connection ! My laptop had an overhaul last Friday to remove Malware and everything was fine apart from this site . I would contact mse but as " the pirate " is locked out of his laptop I am loath to do so .
Lyn Nell will find as many of us have that the doers and sorters of this life are far too valuable as they are than being rewarded for their efforts . They leave a gap which is hard to fill if they get promoted .
I hope she'll work it out and realise she is very capable but too valuable in her present role and her extra efforts . A bit of doing her job description and not pushing herself beyond that could help her .
She's already built up an excellent record and I imagine would be welcomed in a role that acknowledges her talents should she decide to look further afield . She will be feeling a bit low but point out why this has happened it's not her it's them !
Fuds I hope you are on the mend now . I'm glad to see the pictures of your bedroom are still up . It looks so cosy and restful and I hope you are sleeping peacefully in such a calm environment .
I will have to catch up bit by bit as it's always the long posts that go off into the ether .
Well done Hoglet and good luck , all will be well .
    Much love to all

Hoglet You got two well done's from me - no I don't understand either .
Lainey Everyone is right . I am not religious but whether two or four legged I believe our loved ones never leave us .
I used to visit York a lot but now it's a bit too cobbly and hard to get around on foot . I love Harrogate and the villages and dales . I don't think one could ever tire of Yorkshire . If you haven't already been RHS Harlow Carr is a nice trip out and like Harrogate has a Betty's ( at least it did last time I was there .

Karcher I'm sorry to hear of your sad times . I think it can take years to process events . You will have seen that on this thread and it is something I'm working on myself at the moment . Things can happen thick and fast and mean you don't get to work through them before the next one hits . I find the worst bit is the things you can't find forgiveness for . To forgive is divine but there are certain things it feels wrong to forgive . This is what I struggle with as certain things damaged both my children and myself to certain degrees . I hope you can find that elusive contentment and peace , I'm a work in progress x

Dear Candlelight I hope all is well and you are getting some sun and time in the garden .
    I love the 5ps Floss .
SM and all who post sending warm wishes and hopefully sunny days soon .
If you're reading AOT I hope all is well with you .
    Hi to Elona .
I hope I haven't ,missed anyone , trying to catch up on a number of posts .
    Love Pollyxx
Karcher I forgot to say sometimes it helps to talk . You will see this is a safe and friendly thread . All here have had their worries and fears . We have had the rare poster appear with a negative or taunting post but it is dealt with very quickly and bullies are not welcome x
    Night all

  • Thanks Floss, that post has a very familiar ring to it! I think perhaps we did too good a job in bringing up our daughters to be upright and honest citizens???

How frustrating for Nell Lyn :( and given her obvious commitment to her career it must feel like a real knock back. I did have a similar situation with a previous company who were a dream to work for until they were taken over by a large US corporation, at that point we were told it was expected for us to work late at financial deadlines, up to 11pm at times! They refused to pay us overtime and instead we were offered time in lieu, at which point I pointed out that the department was so busy there was never time to take these extra hours which were swiftly accumulating. They literally shrugged their shoulders and said tough, one of the many reasons I was happy to be made redundant.
Organisations will always lose the best people if they don't feel valued and appreciated.

Karcher, can only echo what Polly says, this is a very caring thread and the lovely people in it will always listen if you need to talk through tough times, it's certainly been of enormous help to me x
