You'll get there pet and the vision of you and the girls in front of your fire with the smell of a full English wafting from the kitchen has made me smile, you sound so very happy girlie! I know you're still amidst the chaos of a house move but your words speak deep contentment and pride of place along with home and comfort and hygge and that really is joy of the day xxx.0

Good afternoon all,
Well a miserable wet day here. We popped out to do the Friday shop and thats it. I have a bolognese cooking in the slow cooker for dinner this evening.
Our patio is finished and it looks lovely. It is larger than the decking, we decided whilst the builders were here we would go further out and they dug up a large flower bed we had just in front. Himself isn't able to do heavy digging now, and it has made such a difference to the look of the garden. It is a bit of a quagmire at the moment what with the builders walking over it and the rain. When it drys out we will put a weed membrane down, put the rockery back there and cover it with slate and just a few plants.
This has given Himself a new lease of life, he had the men to talk to (he spends far too much time with me) and he is planning the garden, win win all round.
Lainey, how are you doing, I have an idea you might be being spoilt with all this eating out:) Not before time.
Lyn I assume you are on your travels to see two little boys.
Fuddle, photos please, I am so happy for you, and the sale of Mam's house is complete, it is definitely onwards and upwards for you, just keep an eye to your health.
SM I know by the weather forcasts your weather is from one extreme to another, I think we must all be so looking forward to spring. I have tulips in my tubs about 3 inches above the soil, so hopefully by April they will be in bloom.
Hoglet, are you now entering Autumn? Have you grown many crops this year and did you grow tomatoes. Flora sends many puurrs to the cats,
AOT how are you, is the cold playing havoc with you? DD1 is suffering especially with the metal plate in her thigh, and Himself feels the cold so much. I have bought him lots of new clothes recently, thermal T shirts, fleece lined trousers and a lightweight but fleece lined jacket. Do you find the cold gets to the knees?
Miss Polly I know you are away for a long weekend, I hope you have a lovely time, just a break from every day routine is enough probably to lift you body and soul, enjoy yourself.
Karcher, are you OK, if I remember rightly you were not well earlier in the week, hope you are feeling better.
Have a good weekend all and take care, I don't thnk our weather is meant to improve over the weekend, so we won't be going very far
Much love

My bedroom is ready to show you candlelight but I'm waiting until DH gets the refurbished old doors hung. I love them they aren't to everyone's taste I'm sure but they're so heavy, solid wood I just can't get rid to change to some cheap knotty pine (which is just fine for my new understands cupboard but you know what I mean, made do and mend and all that)
I have found a different way to get to school. I sussed out the bridleways and field walks. We're now off the roadside from home to the start of the town. It's much more interesting too. DD is itching to get the sledge to school when it snows!
But this afternoon it is raining quite some so we tried the bus up. It's 90p for DD and £1.60 for me single. I am surprised. I was expecting around £4 so pleased with that.
I had the quote for the windows today. We're going to replace the front of the house and seek to leave the bathroom window and upper kids window on night lock for ventilation. I just can't justify the price. We do need a new door and of course I broke our bedroom window plus the keys are lost for the living room window which is where we need the ventilation for when we have the fire on so they have to be replaced but no, we're not changing the back until there is a need.
The weekend is itty bitty jobs like building shelves and hanging doors plus we are getting the ball rolling with the kitchen refit.
My DH took time off work in the beginning of the week. One of his jobs was to refelt the shed roof as it was leaking in. The retired chap next door helped him, gave him bits of kit and adhesive. He's going to work with DH when he builds us a porch in the yard for our boots and coats. DH is going to take them to the airport when they go on holiday next month as a thank you. Just goes to show how we don't have anything to barter with!!! He's a cracking chap though.
My health, touch wood, is doing fine. My asthma is coping with the hilly aspect of the walk and my lungs are pain free on inspiration for the first time since the summer. I feel like I'm losing weight with all the heavy walking so I'm hoping that it will all be positive.
The emotional aspect of mam's house is done and dusted. I'm just ok and it's nice to be just ok.0 -
What did I say Fuddle, onwards and upwards. You are making the home you have wanted for such a long time, and after all this time everything is falling into place.
It sounds as though you have some nice neighbours as well and it is good that you can help each other out without living in each other's pockets.
Much love

) oh yes we are Candlelight, had the morning with the babbits as Ruthie drove them up here, Zebra on good form and Oreo very laid back and contented. We played football on the lawn, did puzzles and stickers in the lounge and the made Mud castle in the garden and looked at worms and millipedes we dug up, such fun. We've been to the rugby this afternoon and it was very, very cold so nice to get back home for a cuppa, I'm still huddled in my blanket. Supper out tonight at a new Thai restaurant which will be a treat. Home tomorrow and then Ruthie et. al. are coming to stay for the week and Zebra tells me we can make mud castled at 'your house Oma' and 'can I go to the allotment with Opa and we can pick rhubarb and can I eat it?' have arranged a play date on Monday for Zebra with Sue, mum of Charlie retriever who is bringing her little grandson to visit so she can see the boys. Also tentative arrangements to meet up with a schoolfriend of Ruthies but as she is due to pop with baby no2 any day now that may or may not happen. Nell and I went to see 'Elbow' on Thursday evening which was amazing, they are as good live as on CD and on the train home very early yesterday morning we saw one tiny new lamb in the field with the rest of the flock, obviously the first of the year so although it feels and looks like winter still I think it might actually be beginning to be Spring!!!0

Apologies for being a tad MIA the last few days, RL has been anxious and busy with Capt S's father very poorly, peace has been made between them which is something but extremely worried about my beloved.
Have also made conscious decision to not spend so much time 'online', have been finding that pop on my tablet to check something out and next thing I know a couple of hours have passed.
Hope everyone is well and lives are going well, am also looking forward to seeing the pictures of your house Fuddle, must be so rewarding to make it all yours and what a positive impact on your health.
Lovely to hear that the renovations to your garden are going well Candlelight and that it's given Himself such a lift, long may it continue.
Love to all x0 -
Good morning, good to see you Lainey.
I have an idea how Capt S might be feeling. My sister had fallen out with Mum some time before she died, but she didn't have the chance to make up, and it has coloured everything my sister has done since.
She feels guilt and remorse and will never accept what happened. Out of the three of us she used to be the closest to Mum (I had a very up and down relationship with her) but I was the only one she talked to at the end.
It sounds as though DH has made his peace, give him time and space and let him talk when he wants. I am sure you are doing this anyway.
It is going to be a difficult time but both of you will come through it, with lots of love and kind words.
Much love to you both

My apologies Candlelight I have only just read your post.
Unfortunately I'm not, this virus is one that just keeps giving. I'm am cursed with a very unattractive, hacking, persistent chesty cough and a runny nose and a constant dull headache, slight temperature too (or hot flushes..not sure which :rotfl:)
Thanks for asking though:A
Congratulations on your finished patio..lets hope the sun shines this summer and you get full use of it.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -
Oh Karcher, I had it for 5 weeks and Himself had it for 6 culminating in a nasty chest infection, I have never known a virus like it.
You have my sympathy, I got to the point that I just wanted to wake up one morning and feel slightly better, but that took weeks.
I think you will just have to go with it, make sure you don't become dehydrated, and try to eat a little. I had no taste or smell so there didn't seem much point in eating, but try to eat something.
Take care

Hi everyone, back home and we had a very good run and shopped at our big Mr.T on the way home too. Very wet on the ground here and many torrential showers since we've been back, if I get a clear patch I'll walk Cookie but I have lots to do if not as Ruthie and the boys arrive tomorrow early and I want to have all ready for them so I can spend time with them not doing housework. Washing in the machine, lunch eaten and shopping sorted and put away so that's good. I shall make Bolognese for supper tomorrow as it's Zebras favourite and have invested in a veritable mountain of fruit which will keep him happy!!!
LAINEY it doesn't seem fair to have yet more problems with a parent, I know we don't have choice in it but hugs to you and Captain S for having to deal with yet more emotional distress so close to losing your lovely mum, with you both sweetie and here any time you need company and support, hard times love eh?
KARCHER He Who Knows is just, but only just beginning to feel he's getting the better of this obnoxious virus, I've never known one like it! and his torn muscles due to the hacking cough are less painful too, to the point where he can actually turn onto his left side for a couple of minutes whereas before it was agony. I long, as must all of us, for some warmer and less wintry weather so we can throw the windows wide and welcome in the fresh air, it feels like almost a lifetime since we last did that and we seem to have been shivery cold for months. The rugby yesterday was so very cold it was almost more than was bearable and although we thoroughly enjoyed the match getting back into the house and having a hot cup of tea was very appreciated. It took me quite some time huddled in a throw to begin to come back to room temperature.....and the heating wasn't on so room temperature was 14 degrees!!!
Looking forward to a week of grandsons and their antics, a week of catching up with Ruthie and doing some fun things together. I know we're taking Orley for his first swim in the newly opened municipal baths here, I think we're visiting a beautiful old castle at Portchester as Zebra loves castles, we may do Marwell Zoo too if the weather is dry and goodness knows what else as well so bring it on!!!0
