  • T is for Tough and there were 'life is Tough and getting Tougher threads in the past so this one is No T words mentioned! just to distinguish one from the other!
  • Old Tractor . I've just been giggling to myself yesterday I referred to Fuds as a toughie on this thread and myself and others use the word here also .
I read the various tough threads when I lurked on mse for years . Over the years there have been many large threads one after the other as they began too large and a new one was started . To me this thread and the garden fence are more manageable and easier to keep up with .
I've read through a all the previous versions which may take you some time :D
If they could be published as gigantic set of books they would be amazing , so much good stuff there and good people , some of whom are no longer with us sadly .
You're welcome to join us here if you wish and the same will be true for the fence . Many here also subscribe to the fence and vice-versa .
Nuatha's first post on the fence thread lists the old toughie threads if you've many years with not much to do you can start from the beginning .

Poorlies, non sleepers, ever shrinking ladies delicious birthday meals and 'come and get your cuppa when you've planted me a snowdrop drift'. Is that me caught up? Seriously though, how are the poorlies amongst us and their poorlies OH's?

We've been finishing up the cupboard today. It's looking smashing. I skimmed it!! DH got in a pickle with dropping plaster everywhere and wasn't enjoying the process. I said I would have a go and we're chuffed with the finish. Who knew? :D It awaits the door and the surround, painting when the plaster is dry and new skirting in place but the hard work is done.

We have the doors back from the dipping process. They're rustic and need more work, typically sanding, but as soon as they're ready to be restained they'll be done and hung up. DH is going to hammerite the iron work and the original knobs survived the process. I'm looking forward to them being in place.

My DD's went to school from their new house today. Eldest catches the bus outside our house and youngest is fine with the walk. I'm saving change to keep in the house to be able to get the bus down in not-very-good situations.

Tomorrow my bedroom furniture arrives so as soon as we get the door finished and hung I can show you room number 2 if you would like.

As you can see the house is all consuming at the moment. We're busy doing jobs we can ourselves, slowly pulling together our forever little home. :)
  • Ooh Fuddle - I'd love to see more photos. I'm incredibly curious (or maybe just downright nosy) about people's homes. Gives me great ideas and inspiration. In one of my spare bedrooms I have a huge mirror 5 feet square which acts as a giant headboard. People think it's very unusual but I actually got the idea from a magazine and thought it would make the room look bigger - it does but am glad it's in the guest room as I don't fancy seeing myself up close as soon as I wake up:D

It's freezing here however at the least the rain has stopped. For the first time ever yesterday all exits and entrances from my home were flooded, only tractors could get through. I was marooned for about 8 hours - so I took to the kitchen and batch cooked minced beef and chicken fillets which I'd bought in Costco on Friday. When hubby came home from helping dad on the farm the kitchen table had more then 30 little freezer tubs of chilli, mince, bolognese sauce, sweet and sour chicken and mushroom chicken all cooling down. I worked from home today so had a batch of wild rice and chicken soup made before 8. The freezer is now looking very full:)

  • Afternoon everyone, managed to successfully change a pair of jeans I bought last week for a smaller size and longer length this morning and also bought a couple of plain short sleeved T shirts in M&S as all mine really are too big now. I don't know what M&S are doing with clothing ranges these days, most of the T shirts even the stripey ones have embroidered or appliqued sprays of flowers on and the prints they're using for dresses and blouses are just awful. I've felt the last few years that even older folks would feel drab in what they had on offer but this year I'm stumped as to which age group they are targeting with ANY of the new ranges of ladies clothing in the stores. It doesn't quite make being African and it doesn't quite make curtain material but it definitely doesn't make dress material either, so much for them trying to address the fact that the sales of clothing have plummeted, not going to work with this range!!!
  • Lyn Quick one as I haven't caught up on yesterday's posts yet .
I prefer the plain colours and the tshirts I recently bought from m&s do seem of improved quality , I haven't looked at the rest of the range . What is improving a bit is the shape and fit . I've been frustrated over the past few years by the sack like , square or up at the front down at the back clothes across most stores ranges . There is a better shape to the tshirts I bought , perhaps the hard to find in at the waist clothes may also return .

Have just opened the back door to let Tilly-lou out for a wee and it is absolutely hammering down, when we walked them earlier it was just a light drizzle, glad I didn't let my DB persuade me to go to the football match tonight!
I did pick up a plan grey t-shirt in M&S a couple of weeks ago but have to say that, apart from undies, that's about all that took my fancy, they seem to be struggling to know what direction they should be going clothes wise so everything just looks a bit messy iykwim.
Looks like my spring cleaning has started, did our bedroom and en-suite today so that's a tick off the list, only thing left is the curtains to wash but need to wait for a better day drying wise. It's a start :)
Thoroughly enjoyed meal out with DB last night, we went Greek so easier for me to follow the low carb eating regime, it was a new place to me and have to say very nice it was too. Capt S and I are out on Thursday night as well, meeting up with a pal for a meal, this week is a real test of my will power for sure.
    Night all x
  • Fuddle it's so nice to read about your forever home, take care.
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Have been very brave this morning, He Who Knows wanted to go to B & Q so I tagged along to visit Home Bargains next door and bought myself a pair of footless fleece lined leggings to go with some of the almost knee length knitted tops I inherited from Nell on the proviso that he'd be honest if they looked ridiculous.....not only do they fit (miracle No 1) but they actually look OK too (miracle No 2) and are magnificently warm to add to the joys. I'll try the fleece lined tights too, like the leggings they're 300 denier and at under £5 most affordable. Then it will warm up and become summer won't it???

Oh I don't think you have to worry about summer just yet, although I did remove my scarf on the way back up today. :D enjoy your warmth!

Pooky I didn't reply to you t'other day! Yes, those ladders are most uncomfortable (the DD's beds) especially with all my girth resting on one point of my feet. My DD's have been changing their duvet cover since they were 6 so they will be continuing for sure. I'm not getting up there again plus I go all shakey like a flump who has lost her confidence.

Hester you'll be playing housey, housey real soon. I have to admit to not looking at my blogs so I don't know what's going on with little boat but I will in the next few nights.

My furniture arrived. :D My bedroom is awaiting the door and then it's complete. Such a relief to have a space to wind down in, although not yet as last night was another late night trying to organise everything.

Today has been a sort and clean day, just trying to keep on top of the extra mess that palning doors and plaster brings. My appointment for the windows is booked for Friday morning.

My fire is on as of getting home from school and I'm about to get a cooked breakfast on the go for tea. We're having a relaxed evening, watching TV and crocheting my miner's vest (tank top with a funnel neck) if I can find my crochet. Really worried it's been discarded with other empty boxes because it should have turned up by now. :(
