Well, what a difference a day makes!!! This afternoons walkies with Dockys friend Charlie and his Mumi was taken in golden and gloriously warm sunshine under celestial blue skies and all the big puddles have drained away from the footpaths too. We have part of the coastal path closed off due to landslips but that is the only problem we've had through the whole period of wet and stormy weather. The daffodils that a couple of days ago were only just showing thier noses are today actually so grown on that they are breaking bud and we could see yellow petals beginning to show and the willow buds were showing grey fluffy ends at the tops of the trees, isn't nature amazing?
I've had a busy day in the kitchen and taken down all my jars of beans and spices from the open shelving to clean everything and get rid of anything too old to use and it all looks much tidier, also had a sort out in the equipment cupboards and put the outdoor cooking gear out into the summerhouse with the woodstove so I now have clear worksurfaces and tidy cupboards, jolly good stuff!!!
It's amazing how quickly the evenings start to draw out isn't it? here we are at 4.15 and it's still daylight and sunsetty glow whereas a couple of weeks ago we'd be in the gloaming by now so, I know it's still winter and I know it's going to be cold and perhaps some of us will have snow but I felt for the first time this year the pulse of spring beating under the dead leaves and stark tree branches so onwards and upwards, I think the year is turning! Mrs LW - isn't it a lovely feeling to be connected with the natural world and to see the change of the seasons. Nights are definitely getting lighter and the sunshine today has been very bright and cheerful.
Anyone near an Aldi? We struck lucky at ours today - lots of Xmas stock half price or less.... I got two large jars of Mincemeat (bbd July 2015 so good for Xmas 2014 baking) reduced from 1.99 to 99p, 350g boxes of Scottish Shortbread reduced to 50p and a lovely little iced Christmas cake for £1.25 - lots of lovely sweet stuff reduced but we are both trying to lose weight so had to restrain ourselves from pigging out at bargain prices
Its a cold clear night tonight so expecting a sharp frost tonight but overall very happy to have escaped the snow so far:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

We'll, I'm currently packing to come home. Normal service has resumed here and today it was truly the sunshine state so I'm not thrilled about heading back across the pond but it has to be done. I need to come back to earn enough money for the next trip!
I'm normally coming home with pads full of plans and ideas. I'm not sure where my mind is wandering to these days but I'm light on plans. I guess I have a few weeks before I need to decide on my planting intentions but this is so out of character for me even hubby has commented on it.
Candlelight, the forecast is good for the next few weeks so hopefully it will still be warm and sunny when your family arrive.0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
Hope everyone is well and keeping warm. We had torrential rain last night, but none today, thank goodness, although it is very cold.
Popped to see DD1 today, she is getting everything ready for her stay in hospital, and we popped to SM for a few essentials.
Himself has gone to pick up 2 grandchildren from school, because DGD2 has drama on a Monday evening and has to be there by 4.30, so cannot manage that under her own steam, and of course we wouldn't let her because it is quite a long way from her school..
FTM did you find some nice bits at your Brother's at the weekend? I hope so and you must tell us what you are going to do with them. I know yours is usually a busy household, but it sounds as though it is going to be busier, what with a new kitchen as well. I would dearly like new worktops in my kitchen. The cupboards are absolutely fine, perhaps if I am a good girl and save up I will be able to have them.
SM I am glad you have left some nice weather for my Sister and Brother in law, but I expect you are a bit sad about coming home. Never mind you will be able to look forward to the next holiday with relish.
AOL I hope that chest infection is clearing now and that you are feeling more positive. Once spring arrives I think we all feel better, I don't much like January and February.
Well, I can't think of any more trivia to report, just stay warm and safe.
Much love

Aftrnoon everyone, I've had a lovely day today as I had a trip to Chichester with my friend Sue and we had a visit to Lakeland Plastics for a few replacement bits for both of us followed by lunch at a lovely little garden centre on the way home again. We were very lucky with the weather and managed to miss all the sharp showers which happened when we were inside shops, very nice. We even tracked down the pair of good solid wellingtons she'd been looking for for weeks and then came home and she dropped me off to collect Docky and she went home to get Charlie and we walked them, again in the dry, so lucky, such a nice time.
As I walked up to her house I noticed that a house in the road which has been empty and deteriorating for the past 4 or so years had smoke coming from the chimney and there were new net curtains up in all the windows, I wouldn't have thought it was habitable in the state it is currently in, I could be wrong and perhaps the interior is in better condition or maybe a hardy soul is going to live there while the repairs are done, whatever, it's nice to see it inhabited again as I've been sad to see it gradually fall into disrepair.
I found a lovely victorian hurricane lantern in a charity shop this morning, it has a weighted brass bottom and an engraved glass cover at the top, I thought I might have problems finding candles the right diameter to fit the holder but on getting it home I find that tea lights fit exactly so I'm very pleased with that at £2.99p, a useful addition to the home. Hope you are all OK and managing to stay dry in this peculiar weather we are having, Lyn xxx.0 -
Thanks for asking after me, candlelight. The chest infection was awful and just would not go away. Took two lots of antibiotics but is finally clearing :j- just been left with a slight cough which is aggravated by the cold every time I stick my head out of doors.
ftm, I am still in full de-cluttering mode - can't believe HOW much rubbish I've accumulated. Feels so good to be getting rid of it.:T Got two full bags for charity shop already. But I also have a problem parting with books.
That soup sounds great MrsLW. While my chest was bad I just about lived on home made soup. Good job freezer was full of it but needs restocking now.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
So pleased you are feeling better AOL, just need to build your strength up now.
Take care
Much love

Evening all, it's been really chilly here today so I've just had a lovely long hot soak in the bath and am now warmed up. I think I'm hatching a cold though, I've been sneezing all day and am feeling just a tiny bit interesting round the edges!!! no matter, I'll survive!!!
Think I'm going to pop on the bus to Morri*ons tomorrow and call in at Wai*rose on the way, I get there by 11ish and that's when they do the best reductions so I never know what I'll find but it's usually worth going.
Hope everyone is well and keeping warm, FTM are you back and working at homeschool yet? AOT I hope very much that you are now fully on the mend and feeling much more the thing! Look after yourselves, Lyn xxx.0 -
Evening all - I am supposed to be tidying the kitchen and putting the bins out. Where has the rock n roll gone? :rotfl:
I am another enjoying the nights drawing out a little - I hate the cold and the dark, hence I hate winter. So putting the bins out isn't as straightforward as you may think. Mind, Saturday was glorious and OH and I went bike riding up the lane. Lovely. I see UK weather forecasters are saying there is going t be a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event, which may push all the polar air towards us. Possibly 2 weeks time.
DD just had a meltdown over filling in a form for another drama college - she isnt a drama queen for nothingSo i had to take a tough line and make her do it - we had tears and everything, but it only took about 20 minutes.
GOt a chicken stew bubbling away on the hob. Needs a "something" adding - not sure what. DD had hysterics over me stripping the carcass too
No, the wardrobe is not yet put together. I knew he wouldnt do it, and i have no time at the moment. Tomorrow is a day off, but I have to do some marking, but i will attempt to put the frame together at least. DS can help when he gets in from school. We have bits of wardrobe in the spare room, on the landing and in the lounge  Men - drive you bats sometimes.
A colleague at work turned 60 today and brought in champagne, some nibbles and CAKE!! But also the most divine nougat praline "thing" - hence i had to have some chicken stew for tea as all my daily calories went on this concoction. Honestly it was amazing.
I am thinking about going in the bath and watching something on the ipad while i am in there. Don't tell OH (who is away) he will go BALLISTIC:rotfl:
I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
It's obviously bath night tonight as I too have been wallowing in an attempt to warm up and VJsmum I was reading my Nook in the bath!0
