  • Morning everyone, thank you for your lovely wishes for Docky and myself, I'm OK I have a few achey bits and a horrid productive cough (no further details will be given!) which wakes me up often in the night but we're fine really. The fireworks are still going sporadically but he's to the point now where he shivers for a few minutes and then settles again, poor little Jack though FTM it's a rude introduction to the experience for him isn't it,poor little mite. I've got a nature collection too, I love it, I've got some conkers, some acorns and some pinecones all in a big old split wooden bowl on the hearth and I'll add to it whatever I come across on our walkies. You sound super organised for christmas FTM and well done on having the £10 off and using it sensibly. Glad Simons old boss has stopped being a nuisance to you, hope it continues.

SM commisserations on having the bug, I hope it does its thing and departs very quickly and you feel well again. Love the idea of planting chestnuts, we've successfully grown little oaks from acorns, when DD2 was first at junior school one of her teachers moved to a new home with a VERY large plot and asked the children to collect acorns and grow them in pots and then planted then all around the boundaries to her house, science and nature lesson and practical hedgerow in one easy lesson, clever lady!!!

CANDLELIGHT I hope the craft fair was fun and interesting for you.

Have a lovely day everyone, I'm off for a haircut this morning so I'll look respectable at least, shame nothing can be done for my attitude though, which is most certainly not respectable, I'm a rebel!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

FTM, glad hubby's boss has got the hint x

Expensive day today; our cats have got fleas (first time ever :( and the frontline hadn't touched it so I went to vets and got another flea treatment for the cats and the spray for the house. With 4 cats it was  rather a lot!

Also made the mistake of taking a TV unit to the charity shop to donate then when I got home mentioned a lovely sideboard I had seen there... it's being delivered Tuesday :rotfl:

(We bought a butchers block as well, along with a microwave crisp maker, wine rack and a new pair of wellies for me to live in the car - the wellies will live in the car not me :D.) Oo er, spell check keeps changing wellies to willies!

Got the carpet laid in the hallway this evening, only the landing and stairs to go :T
  • KATE we had flea problems back in the summer and the frontline didn't seem to touch them so we got some stronghold from the vet too and now seem to have cracked it by doing alternate months of frontline and stronghold. I have a theory that because everyone uses frontline I think the fleas may be becoming resistant to the drug used in it. It might just be that this year was particularly bad as it was so warm and dry for such a long time, but I've actually wondered about the effectiveness of just frontline for a couple of years now.
We also got some smokers from the petshop that you set off in a sealed room and they killed any live adults, larvae and eggs in carpets and furnishings which also helped I feel, hope you can sort it out, I know how it feels!!! Lyn xxx.

Thanks MrsL, we got Stronghold too so hopefully it will work. We've got a fair amount of Frontline left so planning on alternating like you until it is used up.

Boo, I've given in and put the tumble dryer on; got a mountain of washing after being away last weekend and not looking likely I will get it all dry tomorrow. Plus with the fleas everything needs to be washed (preferably at 60 degrees which is a 3 hour cycle on my washer) so I'll never get through the backlog otherwise.

Still, it's only the second time I've used it since last winter and maybe anything non-urgent can be washed during the week as OH will be at home this week studying.
  • Good for you girlie, it's all very well having eco principles but NOT when you have a potential flea problem, I did the same thing too!!! Lyn xxx.(the hot wash that is, I don't have a T/D but I'd have used it if I had!!!)
  • Good afternoon everyone,

The weather here today is beautiful after 2 really dismal days. Have been to the cemetery with Himself, my sister and brother in law for my Dad's anniversary. He has been gone 22 years I can't believe it, and I am older now than he was when he died, makes you think doesn't it? We then went to my Sister's for lunch, which was lovely.

DGD and I had a great time at the Craft show, but I will say it wasn't nearly as busy as previous years. I think it must be a sign of the times. Previously it was very difficult sometimes to get any where near the craft stalls because so many people (usually ladies) buying stuff to make cards, jewellery etc. This time we were able to walk around without a bother on us. DGD bought almost everything she needed to make her Christmas cards, but couldn't find any suitable backing papers. I bought several presents in the gift hall, but there again there didn't seem to be so many stalls. I assume the rental for these stalls must be quite expensive..

I was very proud of myself because I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with her (having a little trouble with my blood sugar) but I did really well. For the last 2 months Himself and I have kept to a rigid healthy eating plan and it seems to be working. I am old enough to know what I should and shouldn't be eating, but sometimes temptation gets in the way. Anyway blood sugar seems to be under control again and I feel so much better and much more energy, thank goodness. I am determined my next blood test in December will reflect this, and as a side issue I have lost a stone in weight, can't be bad.!!

FTM I am glad you have a seasonal table. When I read what I had typed I thought it might sound a bit old fashioned, but we used to have great fun looking for things, and particularly things that were a bit mis-shapen.

I am just watching Jack Frost on the TV and Himself is dozing in the chair. I do love Christmas films, in fact I love everything about Christmas except the commercialism. I love the cooking, making table presents and decorations and obviously buying presents. They don't cost lots of money, but I do take quite a long time choosing presents for the right people.

Well I think that's all my news for now. Hope everyone has a good week, and if anyone is still poorly I hope you start to feel better soon.

    Candlelight xx

Candlelight - I had 10 minutes to spare earlier so I took a cup of cinnamon spiced tea to the den and switched on the TV. I caught the last 8 minutes or so of Jack Frost when the little boy was saying goodbye to him. Within seconds I was sobbing and snivelling. By the time hubby came in I was trying to calm the puffy eyes as we were having family to dinner. No more snatching bits of films - next time I'll make more productive use of my spare 10 minutes:o
    NO FARMS = NO FOOD
  • Awwwwww SM we are all allowed a little weep now and again, but perhaps not when we are just about to have the family round for dinner.

I will tell you the one film that gets me every time, The Railway Children. When Bobby goes to the station and sees her Father through the steam of the train and shouts "Daddy, my Daddy" I break my heart every time. It isn't as though I don't know it's coming, I have seen the film so many times, firstly the original with my girls starring Dinah Sheriden and then Jenny Agutter playing the Mother. We are funny creatures but I think it shows we have a soft heart as well.

I am up this early because the cat thought it was time to play!!!

    Take care everyone

    Candlelight x
