If you can get it working for another 30 mins, hijack this can be installed and run in under 3 minutes

and malwarebytes can be installed, updated and set scanning in about the same time

I seriously doubt the issue is with virgin themselves (Unless your aware of a local issue?)

Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
Open malwarebytes and goto UPDATE and click 'check for updates'. After its updated goto SCANNER and click PERFORM QUICK SCAN then click SCAN
Remove everything thats found (needs to be ticked)
Post the COMPLETE log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
then do the exact same but run a FULL scan

Then rerun hijack and post a fresh log

Best of luck with a clean install, would be the best option IMNSHO but from the op posts - that would be beyond them; possibly.

But if you do, have a look for tinyxp rev 09 or rev 11 for an easy XP install, as the machine would be circa 2003.
