Computer slow to load up web pages and dropping connection, thought it was unsecured wireless but sorted that. Ran broadband medic said it was because firewall installed, which may not be working properly, don't know much about pc but had a mooch and have the following on pc. Windows security firewall , norton firewall enabled but sub ran out 2004 ish, and free avira antivirus installed. Another prob is e mails take ages to authorise and load. Can anyone advise before i. Throw it out of window please. Vlt

You mention Norton firewall and avira. You cant get 'just' norton firewall so you really need to uninstall Norton (Plus the Norton firewall is p*ss poor)
Use the Norton removal tool
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Once installed, keep your finger on the SHIFT key, RIGHT CLICK on the hijack.exe desktop icon ans select RUN AS (Admin)
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
I have completely no idea when it comes to computers, is this easy to do? Also how will i post if can't get on net? I'm on my phone now.0

The instructions ive posted are very easy to do
As to getting online: that might not be so easy
Save the hijack this logfile to your computer (Inside C drive would be easiest to get to)
First thing I would try is kee pressing F8 when you first switch on your computer and select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
Assuming the interconnect connection then works, find the logfile and copy and paste it to here:idea:0 -
Windows security firewall , norton firewall enabled but sub ran out 2004 ish, and free avira antivirus installed.
2 fiewalls in itself may well be enough to stop you.....at least uninstall norton first, and if you can then get online, follow the rest of RIK's advice......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
My apologies
Obviously if you cant get on the net you cant run those programs
Goto ADD/REMOVE programs and uninstall Norton
Reboot then attempt the SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING part as per post #4:idea:0 -
Hi RIk, I've installed Norton and done reboot, tried hijacking, loaded up page but the only download I can see says free update checker and scan for software updates. Am I missing something.0

you may have a virus on it.
My son's pc was doing this and i managed to fix it.
Have you got spybot? If you have run it and check for any programs / viruses which could be slowing down your pc.
But Hijack this is really good, i use it whenever i have a problem.0 -
Hijack this:
this a safe site to download the program from:

this is where you paste the logfile:
