Paid and now ebayer is not registered user

I sent a personal cheque to a new ebayer and on the same day a very negative feedback appeared for this person. Now the person is listed as "non-registered user". I haven't received my item yet, assuming that they were waiting for my cheque to clear. Should I try and cancel my cheque/transaction?
Thanks for any advice, will stick to paypal in future.

Call them to see whats happening with their account. You should be able to request their details including phone number from eBay (using advanced search). They may have been suspended rather than ebay closing their account - in which case they'll be back between 7 - 30 days.0

As above - try calling them 1st, if no response, I would be incline to cancel the cheque!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0

How long ago did you send the cheque and is it showing through your account yet as having been paid in by your seller?
If it doesn't show as going through your account personally I would phone immediately and try and cancel it, I don't like the combination of cheque + NARU'd user. You will have to pay to cancel your cheque though which is a bit of a downer.
If it does show in your account already then you are probably stuck.

Cheque and new ebayer is sadly sometimes not a happy combination.marje wrote:I sent a personal cheque to a new ebayer …..will stick to paypal in future.
He might be genuine but you are taking a big risk, especially as he is now NARU.
Personally I would cancel the cheque if you can, unless it is for such a low amount that the cancellation fee of maybe £5 is not worth paying.
Do you have online banking? Look it up now if you have.
Good luck.

If a cheque is lost in the post, there is no fee payable....I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Cheque was for £10 and has just come off my account. Will try and phone person concerned but maybe just have to chalk this up to experience!
Thanks for all the help.0 -
Sometimes people can be NARU'd temporarily on eBay for all sorts of reasons. I have purchased two items in the past and paid for them, only to discover that the user was NARU'd shortly after. The first was a £500 bicycle, which I panicked about. I sent an email, and they assured me it had been sent via Parcel Force 48 that morning ... it arrived 1 hour later!!
The other, I won just recently. I just looked again, and the seller is now un-NARU'd ... so I am hoping my stuff will arrive. At least this time it is only £15 worth ..For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -
If the buyer/sellers are genuine, they will automatically contact you via email, possibly with an explanation. If you dont hear, then I would presume they will take the money and run. Thats my opinion, as not all people are genuine!
My account was suspended a while ago, after some items had just ended, and the customers who paid via paypal, I contacted them immediately with an apology and gave them my re-assurance the goods will be sent.Which they was.
After 28days, my account was up & running again. And those who purchased from me, left very good +f/b.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
marje,
The problem with low value cheques is that the bank's stop fee is often greater than the cheques' amount. Best to let the cheque be paid, then if you don't get the goods or can't contact the seller, file a complaint at your local Police station with the CID (try and pick a time when they aren't too busy). Most CIDs have a specialist crime officer that deals with online e-crime or can forward details to them. You may not get restitution, but the seller's details will be recorded and may permit a prosecution (and compensation) at a later date.
Hope this helps :-)"Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0
