Hi
This month the exact same has happened too me.
Same lies, same story same outcome on investigation.
Manufacturer said phone had not been sent to them (I requested this) because samsung Kies had caused the problem during an upgrade. Phone had not been taken apart (dust and debris in edges of phone, under magnify glass proved this)
Anyone got more up to date info on this scam by CarPhone Warehouse?
thanks

Water damage can be more than liquid water (ie rain) but also condensation. If the moisture sensors are tripped they won't open the phone regardless.
The retailer may choose to repair things in house rather than send it externally to the maker, thats their choice, You have no choice in that, you could try sending to Samsung and see if they repair it for you, but if the water ingress sensors are red then they may refuse too.
The problem with water ingress is it's not simply just the initial moisture that the problem, if any remains in the phone it will lead to corrosion inside and even salts settling on the ciircuit boards that can cause shorts makingit a far from simple repair process.
Given the original poster posted 2 years ago they were going to take CPW to court, and if they had it would have surely been reported here (and as far as I know hasn't) then either the OP was imply ranting, or there has been no evidence there is anythign.
Every repair company has times when they mis diagnose a problem, or fail to make a repair, try the manufacturer.0 -
Samsung warranty many are CPW service centres .so might have sent the phone to themselves .
An aside as to water damage re condensation .
I have noted that my phone leaves home at 60 degrees goes in to my pocket and its often a trouser pocket . Car journey one hour go outside remove phone from pocket . Phone is very warm outside temperature is between 8 and zero degrees . Surely giving enough variation in temperature for condensation to form .

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
I understand your explanation and would not in the context offered argue your point.
However, I am not a stupid person and would agree that if the colours had changed due to the parameters you suggest I would accept the outcome.
I am a retired Sales Director of a multi national electronics manufacturer, turnover £500 million. I understand all the process's and have dealt with thousands of product situations and conditions in which they were used.
I was updating a very well looked after 9 month old phone using kies, it offered the update and I accepted it. It bricked my phone and I did NOT have my warranty with Carphone warehouse, I have always used them for repairs. I was told that it would be sent back to Samsung and I would not have left it for them to repair, I knew it was a Samsung problem.
They told me it was going to samsung, they told me that water ingress was the problem. full stop. I bought from Play.com a new galaxy S2.
On investigation It was obvious the board had not been removed, I accept your explanation around routine inspections, but mine was not a routine repair, I asked for it to be sent to Samsung, that was my contract with them.
Samsung have told me it was not returned and CPW did the repair which was not within the contract I had entered into, they gave me pictures (of the board that had not been removed) and these showed water damage (which of course on investigation if the board is not in that condition case solved).
After speaking with Samsung (they offered repair) I spoke with my supplier Three, they knew what I had been through and I am due an upgrade, so I went to local store and booked it in with the original explanation, (Kies had bricked my phone) It was returned with the tell tale debris around the casing (hence they had not removed the pcb) and the phone is working perfectly after, reinstall of OS.
Now, I am not here to argue with your professional expertise and I am fully aware of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982, I am asking for information around what was an old post ie. update and should I pursue it further?
They have cost me money.
Thanks for your posts and help.
ps. I have spoken with OFT and I do have a case.0 -

To start with, were the indicators red or white?
I agree that CPW are notorious for using this pathetic excuse and failing to provide any reliable proofs of liquid damage.
