CPW repairs

what a bunch of jokers this lot are.

I have my N8 direct from orange and just before Christmas is refused to switch on. I phoned orange and they told me to take it into the local CPW repair centre, also known as the Geek Squad I think that say's it all about this mob.

The sore couldn't repair it so they sent it off, then a week later there warehouse said they couldn't repair as it was water damaged, I was fuming as I knew the was BS.

Anyhow I picked the phoned up friday and asked for the water damage pictures they promised me, the girl in the store said "I've never known this before, they haven't sent them".

I was fuming and asked for them to be emailed and they have promised them to me.

I walked out of the shop and pressed the button just out of curiosity and guess what ? It works ! those idiots really do not have a clue.

Geeks, I couldn't think of a more appropriate name that I'm allowed to write on here.
nothing.

Yes, similar stories about CPW repairs keep emerging here. They are notorious for using the pathetic 'water damage' excuse. Next time you deal with them make sure you have good pictures of the water damage indicators before handing the phone over to CPW.
  • If people are un happy with CPW repairs then why don't you send your phone off to Nokia, Samsung etc yourself. CPW ARE NOT obliged to do it for you, it's an extra service they offer just because they do. They also DO NOT have to supply a loan phone to you but they do.

Amazing how you can be un happy with a service you're NOT paying for.

I unfortunately took a phone to them to repair a few years ago - never again!!
The phone wouldn't charge, I'd tried a different battery and different charger but no luck, I was told by Voda to take it to my local CPW.

When I went to fetch it, I was told it was fixed. I didn't try it in the shop a I had to dash to catch the bus home.
When I got home and switched it on, it was dead, so I put it onto charge and not only was it not charging but the screen was cracked where it hadn't been when I took it in.
I went back to the shop again and asked to see the manager who wouldn't even come out to me. I was told that the screen had been cracked when I took it in, which I know it wasn't, they wanted £40 for a new battery which they said must be causing the original fault, even though I said I had tried another battery out of another phone which was working and £70 for a new screen which they insisted was already broken, they said there was dirt in the crack which I certainly couldn't see, it looked like a fresh crack to me. They refused to do anything about it unless I paid £110 and then couldn't give me a guarantee that the new battery would fix the original fault. I didn't trust to leave it with them and certainly wasn't going to pay for a screen I hadn't broken so I took the phone home.
I wrote to the CEO of CPW who didn't even reply. So I then wrote to Nokia and told them what a rubbish service CPW gave to its customers. I had a lovely letter back from Nokia who said they would have the phone back to look at it for me and I was to ring their customer service manager.
The next day, they sent a courier for it and a few days later, rang to say that I was to expect a parcel. When I opened the parcel, there was a new phone of the same type. I suppose with the damage that CPW had done and the original fault, my old one was not worth repairing.
The present phone I have has a fault and I have been in touch directly with Nokia as all Voda want to do is change the sim card - how that will fix the fault the phone has, I have no idea. Nokia have sent me insructions to update the software to see if that fixes it, if not, they have told me what to do to get it collected and returned to them for repair.

I would always go direct to them rather than go to CWP.

Sounds like you work for them.
By the way, they didn't offer me a loan phone.

No, just see so many people on here complaining about something that someone isn't obliged to do. I always get my phones from CPW, they'll do plenty more for you than what a network shop will do and of course, phones are sim unlocked too.

Loan phones are given out to those that have their insurance cover, I had one given to me.

Orange are obliged. And Orange directed the OP to CPW. So, without knowing about internal arrangements between Orange and CPW it is impossible to say whether CPW are obliged or are not.

What difference does it make that I don't pay? CPW get paid for the service by the manufacturer (or by Orange?).

They are not obliged to do anything, there are no internal arrangements between Orange and CPW. Any repair of a non-CPW handset is done purely on goodwill.

I don't buy this. They are not a charity and goodwill has nothing to do with this. If they have no agreements with Orange, then they do have with Nokia and get paid by Nokia.

This probably explains their selective approach to repairs - choosing jobs with the highest price to efforts ratio. If the ratio is not satisfactory they blame the customer for alleged 'water damage'.
