I'm sceptical myself but if/when Rossi does sell a unit it's not going to be in a box marked 'nuclear reactor - this way up' delivered by Parcel Post. It's going to be a big one to somebody who knows what they are getting into. The U.S. Navy has acknowledged it met with Rossi. The US Navy Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center has published research on LEN reactions and confirmed it detected neutrons. NASA has publicly acknowledged its interest in LENR. Whoever it is, If it's a crock of doo-doo's we'll all know well before we get our cheque books out and if Rossi tries to run off with the dosh he won't get far before a hellfire missile catches up with him.

Is Rossi Looking at Mass Production for the E-Cat?

    http://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Is-Rossi-Looking-at-Mass-Production-for-the-E-Cat.html

"The NASA video does point out one important thing. While the first to market will be forever a leader, the technology is just now taking off and where it will lead in the decades to come is today anybody’s guess".

"The UL involvement follows news that National Instruments (NI) is working with Mr. Rossi in designing new control systems for the one-megawatt and home size 10 kilowatt (kw) E-Cat. In the conversation Mr. Rossi offered that now great progress is being made and on his blog he’s indicated that they have been able to achieve stable steam production of 400ºC. This will be important later for the efficient production of electricity".

even a cascade system using a few different sources, i.e. photovoltaic energy to power pulse coil flywheel generators stacked like a computer hard drive but much larger, coupled to the LENR then using the heat produced to either heat a house or further generate electricity.......

I think I would rather be in a position to afford a wood burning or duel fuel burning Boiler, Stove, Heaters myself and take advantage of the tonnes of wood that needs using up.

There is thought to be about a million tonnes of scrap wood a year being dumped mainly to landfill - If the forgotten copses of our land were harvested again, that could create another million tonnes of biomas type wood.

BUT remembering that coal has 2 to 4 times the calorific value of wood and the country gets through the equivalent of about 25 million tonnes of coal per year; firewood will only ever be a marginal solution for overcrowded Britain.

I tend to agree with the calculations of some of the comments below the newspaper story. Wood smoke can be pretty nasty stuff.

John, way out of my comfort zone here, but couldn't waste wood be 'cooked' on a large scale to give off both heat and syngas (is that the right name?). So if caught and controlled, the gas can then be used as and when needed. Edit: scrap that, bio-gas is given off by fresh wood isn't it. Doh!

Also waste wood, while better re-used, is technically a renewable resource. New wood in, old wood out. Please don't think I'm advocating this as a future energy source though. I'm not that daft (not quite), just better to use than waste. I think a lot of the timber that went into houses in the 70's / 80's had some nasties in it, that might make it unsafe to burn. Not sure of dates, but I think newer timber, pallets etc are far safer to burn. Must do some googling on this.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • A lot of pallets now incorporate (recycled) plastic bits and chipboard spacers.
Like all these things, it so so much easier to process when the product is "pure".
PV, Hydro and wind electricity is pretty "pure".
Natural gas (CH4) tends to be pretty pure - the soot from burning natural gas is used to make food grade black plastic.

You then get a hierarchy of ease of processing and nasty pollutants and a trade off between risk over a period of years. [There was a news item this week about a beach in Scotland with radioactive pollution thought to be caused by burying luminous dials from scrap aircraft in the 1950's]

Here we go, was the decline of the Roman Empire caused by drinking wine "sweetened" with lead?
Probably not it was an economic model based on continuous economic growth (by conquest for natural resources) - sounds familiar?
