'Secured' on a CC agreement does not mean a security deposit - it means the agreement is secured on something of value. Many standard credit cards are not secured, but become so when they take the customer to court. They then use court action to 'attach' the property of the cardholder. The reason why this ius so evil, is because a secured loan is normally much less interest, due to the reduced risk to the lender. The companies (like MBNA) charge high interest rate, THEN rush to secure the debt on the first hint of trouble. THe damning thing is, it's legal.

No this capital one card is secured on my £99.00 deposit.
Unless i pay this deposit they will not issue the card.

I have applied for a Capital One Classic but I was declined and offered a Secured Card online. After receiving a letter requesting me to confirm my ID and returning it I have since received an email today asking to pay the £29 security payment. I have paid it and an hour or two later another email arrived telling me that my card should arrive in 7-12 business days.

    Hope this helps anyone

Spoke to Capital One today and was told they were still making checks the person i called didn't have much of a clue to be honest.

He said they had received my credit agreement back so I'm hoping i will receive a email soon with the link in to pay.

  • I had one of these about 10yrs ago. The deposit can be returned at a later date without closing the card.

I got a surprise about a 18months after I got the card, the deposit returned by cheque, then got an increase on my limit.

To be honest she's not that bothered about getting one. She uses my Capital one classic and Vanquis and keeps them in her purse just in case I loose them :)
