works well with red cabbage too - add red wine vinegar instead, and handful of raisins if you like.
It's the only way I cook sprouts too!0 -

Thank you LV. I should have enough to try that. The first half is going on panade, the third recipe on this page. It does sound like it could use a bit of bacon in it to liven it up.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Well stop galavanting around enjoying yourselfmrbadexample wrote: »Woo hoo!
This is the first cabbage I've ever grown. Mainly because I don't really like cabbage, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with this one:
That's an excellent cabbage, I'm really impressed. Never got one passed the snails here.
Have spent most of my free time winterizing mums, dads and MIL homes and gardens. They're all done now but done nowt here.
Will take my poor cold and wet chilli plants in later, still got loads of chillis to pick, well I did last Tuesday when I looked at them.
Last of my toms picked now, and last few runner beans left on for seed next year. I need a dry day this week to clear up and sow a few last bits and must buy some garlic to plant too, but only need a dozen or so this year now the garlic muncher has left home.0 -

Grafting hard by the sounds of it!Have spent most of my free time winterizing mums, dads and MIL homes and gardens. They're all done now but done nowt here.
The pepper plants I brought in are all ripening up. I have one fully yellow pepper, but it's the size of a cherry tomato... and two of the red peppers are starting to get a good red tinge. Shame they're all so dinky.
I watered them last night and nearly flooded the windowsill... Didn't expect the drainage to be quite so "effective" Filled the tray/saucer thingies more than twice over.0 -
This is the first year I've ever given up and picked all the green tomatoes.
I've never had enough green ones to make chutney before, but I've got just over 2.5kg bubbling away on the stove.
Anything with the slightest blush has been picked but kept to see if it ripens. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
First time I am going to admit defeat and make green tomato chutney too. Still there's always next year!0

Well spotted RedLass, and I did wave at your folks MBE enroute to mumsmrbadexample wrote: »This is the first year I've ever given up and picked all the green tomatoes.I've never had enough green ones to make chutney before, but I've got just over 2.5kg bubbling away on the stove.

I've not had to make any for many years, but every so often the end of summer is carp and autumn is too cloudy, cold and wet to get the last ones to finish.
Can't stand the stuff personally but DS likes it which is handy.
Chillis look sad and sorry for themselves, in need of a feed and some warmth. They should perk up soon, should have brought them in a few weeks ago by the looks of them.
Round courgette still going and the very disappointing, never to be tried again Patio Star courgette has finally produced 2!!! Expensive seeds too http://www.thompson-morgan.com/vegetables/vegetable-seeds/pumpkin-squash-and-courgette-seeds/courgette-patio-star/ta01088TM I had 2 seeds and gave the rest to neighbours, 1 of which hasn't even flowered.
One of my BNS looks like the supermarket ones:j will take pic in a while, so that's tonights dinner.
Back to the rosehips in the saucepan, never made rosehip syrup before, but hopefully tasty.0 -
Thanks for your help MBE. I did write down my pass-word - on a bit of paper and then lost it - so having found it again I have written it down in my diary. I think I am getting a bit old for all this technical stuff (eighty next birthday) but know quite a few people younger than me who can`t even switch on a computer so I can`t be doing too bad.
I do enjoy looking at all the photos which show it all, warts and all, not like the magazines and TV programmes where everything is perfect! You have all done so well despite the weather and I am totally amazed at all your achievements.
No photos from me - sorry, and I can`t do quotes either, so please forgive me for keeping stuff plain and simple. I am one of those idiots that has to wait for my daughter to come over and transfer my pictures from my digital camera onto the computer so posting them in a forum would be totally impossible for me. I am just grateful that I can at least operate a camera!0 -
