I'm going to try tying a paper bag around a tomato truss whilst still on the plant to get it to ripen. I remember my nan doing that at the end of the season, worked with some but not all, I assume because they hadn't finished growing to full green size yet.

Could the brolly and courgette now seem sensible compared to a tomato plant covered in brown bags:D

off to see if I have any paper bags............. (anything to avoid housework today as I don't feel like doing it ;))

EDIT; I don't have any paper bags, and it's raining now:(, so off to the greengrocers tomorrow to see how many I can get them to part with in exchange for buying some fruit, grapes maybe, a few in each bag;)

Like Annie says - could have been a meteor shower perhaps

It was. I said in my post that I'd forgotten about the pleiades, but I meant to say Perseids.

They peaked at the weekend but you might still see the odd one. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Lost a tomato plant in the high winds today. Snapped the stalk in half...:(
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Splint it if any of it remained attached rather than a clean break.

Just picked my first thornless blackberry :D but it didn't taste as nice as I'd hoped :( not sweet, in fact tart.
They're fat and juicy looking and get a fair bit of sun so I'll try leaving the next ones to turn a bit longer before I pick them to see if they sweeten up, otherwise I'm going to need to add sugar to the crumbles.

Get the top half in water, and it'll root. Might be salvageable. :)

Hi all, not posted here much lately but still reading. :)

I've been getting a good supply of cucumbers and courgettes but that's about it. Nothing else is growing very fast or ripening.

I have loads (seriously loads) of tom flowers and teeny tiny toms growing on some of my plants but they do seem very 'static'.

I'm wondering if I cut off several branches and removed some flower stalks, would that then help the growth of the toms that are trying to grow?

My concern is that the plants are too big and have too many trusses and we just wont have the time/ decent enough weather left, to let it all grow naturally.

    Thoughts please?
