We had a storm here earlier that was biblical, which sort of dampened my hope that the garden would be dry for tomorrow.
Still, it's the 1st time I can remember that I can't see rain in the forecast.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Oh I see, everyone has almost red toms except for me
I'll join you in the lame-tomato club. I have two garden pearl bushes that were looking fantastic to start with, and have been smothered in flowers for weeks. But the flowers just die, with no fruit in their place. And every day (or so it feels) for last the 2 weeks or so I've been pulling off branches that are turning yellow and brown. They must be sickly, or perhaps just terribly unhappy. Soon there'll be nothing left of them. Bit sad0 -

Don't feel so left out now, but sorry you've got the same too.
Wonder if 1 week of sun and warmth will help? at least with no rain due next week, it's a chance to get some plant food into the veg with out it being washed away.
I've bought some weed killer for the bind weed that has crept in from next door, will be spilling some over the fence too;) it's at the back of my stumpery so no chance of digging it out.0 -

Not even a sniff of a tomato or pepper here
My plants were sown in February and are only just flowering in the greenhouse, can't recall such a poor growing season in 30 odd years of growing toms and peppers.
On a happier note, the raspberries I rediscovered hiding in the undergrowth, have given us two bowls of fruit and my three surviving autumn rasps are making good progress too :j"We could say the government spends like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors, because the sailors are spending their own money."

The sun lasted 3 hours here this morning and it's overcast now.
I've been out examining the tom plants and I think it's abundantly clear that next year (if I haven't been put off by this year's fiasco), I should really only put 2 tom plants in each planter instead of 3.
They've just suddenly 'bushed' up and out and all the branches have intertwined. I'm sure I'll need to thin them out but I don't want to fiddle with them until the flowers go and the toms grow at least.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I'm sitting in the garden, planning a BBQ. Summer is back! Thank god...Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

Don't worry so much about them. Last year I had 15 vine tomatoes in one bucket and just left them to it and got loads of fruit from them. Just give them a good feed each week.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Funny you should reply, I was thinking about you when I was in the garden looking at them.
I was remembering your 'treat 'em mean' tendencies and thought you would just leave them.
I also cut off my only chilli flower head as soon as it appeared because I recalled you saying doing that had encouraged lots of new flower growth on yours. You had better be right.:rotfl:
