Planted up most of the bog barrel today:
Sundew side:
Flytrap side:
I've still got a few more to go it - a Darlingtonia (Cobra lily) when it's a bit bigger, and more sundews and flytraps. There won't be much in the way of gaps when it's complete.
Looking pretty good though, I think. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Inspired to come out of lurkdom to say:
We have a toad - found him nestled under the verbascum just today! Woo hoo, slug eater in residence!
Hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread Mr BE - I have been following as we have dug up the lawn this year and have planted veggies instead
Great. You really don't need grass. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Hi everyone
Well we have tomatoes :j
They're early galina so a yellow cherry so I don't think they are far off. Sorted the greenhouse out today and potted on a couple of toms and peppers that didn't look happy. Quite a few fruit trusses on the toms but still having flowers drop off the early orange bell pepper...strange. Husband has put nematodes on the beds for slugs/snails and the grass for chaffer grubs...I've also put copper collars round some plants, mainly dahlias.
Anyway, I promised some garden shots so for those interested here goes...quite a bit of gardening done this weekend despite the weather and a bed extended...last pic
From the back door
To the left is the garage with a pergola that is covered in wisteria...sadly no flowers left now!
To the right of the backdoor
Large raised bed with an old magnolia tree in it and recently chopped cotenaster (sp?)
Water butts at the side of the house
One of our three lawns
Old apple tree & magnolia with the greenhouse behind it
My two sheds-potting on the left
Veg patch...needs weeding
The greenhouse-its on top of an air raid shelter with steps down into that and what we think is a gun turret!
My newly extended bed with a new hot lips salvia and some dahlias-with the obligitory copper collars, slug pellets and nematodes
It is a really mature garden but seems to take an awful lot of looking after. That could be because I am rather new to gardening or could be because lots of things are mature so need extra care...but I do love it0 -
Great stuff Fay. Not jealous of the tomato at all. No, really I'm not.
Nice garden.

Nice garden Fay! Mine is such a mess in comparison
I got tomato plants from the mother in law's friend today, on the stick in with them it says "romafi", any idea what kind these could be? I also got two "Gardeners Delight".
When I was thinning out my radishes today I noticed lots of very tiny yellow things that looked like they could be eggs, again, any ideas? I'm concerned they are slug eggs or something!! This is in a big pot in the blowaway.
ThanksJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
OMG Fay I want your garden please lol
Very envious of these tom's people have growing too!0 -

Gosh, vanish for a few days and everyone's plants start to grow!
LE.....I feel for you, our fence came down last year into our garden and broke most of my raspberry canes amongst other things and this year next doors came down into our garden, taking with it my old small shed, mini apple tree, several shrubs and a rhubarb.
The local allotments here have postponed their annual show from next week to end of July, no one had anything to show apparently.
Even my new gardening neighbour with her lanky tomato plant has a small green tom on it, where as mine look healthy with flowers still.
The cucumbers that looked prostrate and dead seem to be recovering, time will tell if I get anything off them, especially as they're 5" tall still at present.
I tried rooting a nibbled stem from the butternut squash and it may have taken but it only has 1 leaf on it so I'm clutching at straws really.
Even my runner beans don't look that good this year, no where near as much growth as last year.
I've had over 500g of raspberries yesterday but due to the consistent rain they dont taste as nice as usual, bit watery.
Loads of rhubarb, it's loved all the rain since April and little chilli peppers on several of my plants, which considering they are all out side is amazing.
As much as I don't like using even organic slug pellets, they've gone down. Copper tape isn't working well enough this year, beer traps not catching enough and eating 4 flower buckets = 100% of my french beans for the 3rd time and 50% of my celery in one night was the final straw.
On a positive note one of my courgettes has 2 female and 7 male stems which should, if we have some sun this week, turn into flowers in a week or two's time, only about 6 weeks behind!
Congrats to ali and drea :T and can we ban Fay from posting garden pics please, I've got serious neat and tidy/garden size garden envy now:(
(Nice garden Fay)

I think last year I hardly used any organic slug pellets, this year in comparison, I've used loads and still got damage. Even though I know they've worked.
I have got alot of strawberries, although with the amount of plants I have, so should I. Alot of damaged ones as well though.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
You know, any of you are welcome at any time to come and help with weeding, lawn mowing, pruning, tidying etc etc...I love the garden but it is hard work and sometimes more work than pleasure. Not sure if the slug attack is working yet I guess it will take a week or so to decide. Fingers crossed it stops them eating everything though.0
