what sort of potatoes are they? when did she put them in?

If it's maincrop then yes because they will still be growing. If it's first earlies then no as they might be almost done now and she could probably harvest them.

I have no idea. I doubt she would know either tbh, they're just tatties to her. :)

Then leave it, it doesn't matter how many potatoes. Just that she has grown some.

 What are these? They look almost like small black seeds.

    DSC00706.jpg

I found them on my strawberries. :(

And I have holes in my blackcurrant bush leaves. :(

I found what looked like a tiny caterpillar (literally only 3 or 4mm long) so I'm assuming that's what's eating my plant.

What do I use on them? Besides bad language. :D

    Edit: I also have greenfly!

    Show off :p

Well done you, best I've got is 2 dead ones from the night lows of 7c in spite of fleece over them and 1 left that looks sulky.
Also lost 2 BNS got one left and that's looking sad too but as they were already in the ground and too big for bottle clouche they had to make do with fleeces which apparently wasn't enough.
My cherry tree has dropped about 60% of it's fruit, which isn't unusual but sad to see all the same.

Bumper raspberry crop looking likely though, and strawberries too.
Toms looking OK, runner beans growing like mad, French beans getting eaten faster than I can sow them this year, and courgettes in the ground looking happy, all 4 plants! I usually have a few eaten but this year they seem to prefer eating the French beans. Garlic is fattening up nicely, and lots of little peppers appearing already.
Had a rummage around the tatties and all 4 containers and 3 lots in the ground looking OK, but realised as some were planted later this year they will be sitting where my leeks are going so I've stuck them in a nursery bed for the time being.
I've still got 6 chilli plants sitting in 3" doing s*d all so they're going in the beds where ever there's space. If I get extra chillis from them that's a bonus, but the way the weathers been so far this year, it still feels like I should have grown rice.
This must be the wettest drought ever here in London :rotfl:

Those - we call them pollen bugs/flies. They won't do any harm - we usually get herds of them in courgette flowers once the summer arrives.

You have possibly got Sawfly - they also attack blackcurrants. Check under the leaves and squish them like crazy.

Greenfly - various methods of dealing with these but the best is to catch some ladybirds and let them loose on the plant with g-fly...I leave ladybirds to hibernate all over the place [by leaving out lots of hollow stems all winter] and rarely if ever get greenfly.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Me too. I was wondering what was wrong with mine but since I read your post, I guess there's nothing up, they just want more sun/heat.

I'm toying with the idea of planting one of the bushy type F1 plants in a bigger pot and taking it back inside the porch and just growing it there as a houseplant in the hope I get some chillies from it.

Not sure how big a pot I would need though. :undecided They are supposed to reach 30-45cm tall. Would an ordinary B&Q bucket do?

Sorry the weather hasn't been too kind to you annie.

I got bitten stupid by the midges in the back garden yesterday. I look like I've caught some sort of nasty contagious disease. I don't mind the rain today. :)

I've just googled sawfly. Looks like they can do a great deal of damage. Will check the plants carefully later on.

I wish I'd bought more enviromesh to put round the fruit cage now.

I can honestly say I have not seen a ladybird since we left the Highlands. Loads of white butterflies, but no ladybirds. Will try the hollow stem idea to try to encourage them in future.
