My PiP's get their final place as 3 to an 8 - 10 inch pot, that's about 7 inches deep.
Yep, small olive size sounds plumptious and useable. Just remember, hot at purple, fiery at red.0 -
I'll be watching this thread with interest as I have done previously, though I think I've only lurked before. All we've done so far is buy seed potatoes this morning - Rocket, which we had last year and were excellent, and Marfona - not had these before.
No greenhouse here, although I'd love one, so a bit early to be planting anything just yet I think.0 -
Glad to see this up and running again this year Mr BE
Enjoyed reading all about your exploits last year and it gives me a kick up the behind when need be to get planting!
Best of luck with this years growing.0 -
Ooh great, I'm glad you're doing another thread MrBE, it helps to remind me what I should be sowing when. I've got some Swift early pots chitting, but really I need to get a new garden fence organised out the back. I left it too late last year, I'd got stuff growing in the ground and couldn't bear to see it walked on/damaged by fencers, so this year I need to get it done. (I'm a terrible procrastinator though...
)
If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -

When I think of the fencer I had last year, standing on my gooseberry bush shovelling debris onto the rhubarb...
So get it done!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

The chillies are small. They may well not have been affected by the pot size. Photo here.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Glad to see you're continuing with this GYO malarchy MrBE.
Are you trying anything new this year?
I'm giving globe artichokes a whirl - can't remember if I like 'em as it's years since I had them. Also I think they are perennial, so I'll have to find a pemanent space for them.
Can't believe 2011 was a year of no courgettes - well one miniscule one; all the others got mildew and died. Mind you it was a blummin' funny summer for weather.
Also want to do more butternut squashes this year too.0 -

Hi again MBE! and let's hope 1012 is a fab growing year :-)
last year was a bit mixed for me - I had to move last March from a flat with a big (albeit north facing) garden to a place with a small patio, where my landlady's roses got mildew, which quickly spread to my courgettes and lambs lettuce. And my stuff was plagued by aphids as well. However, I did have surprise success - a random cucumber plant from a plant sale did amazingly well and was still producing in October, in a basic plastic covered propagator.
So...this year I'm going for aphid-resistant salad varieties, dwarf beans in pots (they did well last year), tumbling toms, cucumbers again, and I've also blagged some more stuff to act as shelving for multi-storey gardening with gro-bags - I've just added an old shoe rack to the collection!
Just been online to order lots of seeds, and all being well I'll plant things out in the propagators in March. Can't wait for the taste and aromas of lovely summer veg!
yum yum :-)0
