pink poppy's strawberries look so pretty. Mine have dry leaves, curled leaves, etc. But somehow they are growing me some pretty nice strawberries. I'm guessing that means I shouldn't be too worried?

Do you have a cheap sauce of 6' canes? my local garden centre want £1.20 per cane  and I'm not paying that.

8' canes would be better, surely? I bought my last lot from a local DIY store - can't remember how much but way less than that.

Photo of your spuds please? :D

    Ta-ra a bit!
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Hello and welcome. :D

Hate to post and dash but I'm off to Norfolk until Sunday, so just popped in to find someone to water my thread while I'm gone. I haven't seen lemonjelly around for a while. John's probably got enough on his plate recuperating. Lotus is too busy catching up with his own stuff.

    Annie? I say, Annie!

Would you mind doing the honours please? :D

That's what I like, loud and clear blokes message :rotfl:
    I'd be delighted:D
Have a safe journey and enjoy your trip.

I've often wondered, the wartime posters and growing guides told all about how to grow the basic stuff, but gave no indication of the pests you would encounter.
This seems a major failing and I wonder what the result was?

I can't reach the top of my beans with the tall canes, 12" in the ground would leave 7' above and I'm only 5'4" so I pinch my beans out at 5'.
I have an excellent local diy store, didn't think of them. I'll stop in tomorrow Thank you.

  • Weekend frost?

Some areas are going to get pretty chilly over the weekend and there may be some frost around but do not panic too much. Many, many years ago I had my five little tomato plants blackened by frost so I went out and bought five more to replace them.

I did not want to bin the first batch so my little daughter and I used to go down the garden every day and gently stroked the poor little plants and talked to them encouraging them to recover and in what seemed to no time at all new little green shoots started to appear and they grew to be strong and healthy again bearing lots of little cherry tomatoes.

Their replacements - well they received no such tender loving care and were much smaller and had less fruit than the frost bitten ones.
So you see, there is hope when you think all is lost.
