    MBE re your pond.
1.let it drop as much as it wants, where it stops is your possible leak

    2. If you do have a leak, empty pond again..syphon it using the hose pipe then carefully remove liner and look for wet patches of soil/sand to get an idea where it is and patch.

    3. got any old carpet/duvet/blankets you could use under it to form a thicker barrier between liner and stones?......my DS had the same thing happen to him and 2nd time he put old carpet and duvets under.....all freecycled.

    4. Do you have foxes visit? they could have made a few holes or, looking at when you held the liner back to make a lip you used bricks and paving, maybe check those areas for small holes?

    5. Have you had warm sunshine, you'll still get water evaporation even at this time of year, although 2" seems a lot for around 12c

    Or ask you dad;)

    off to catch up......

    Because you're really helpful! :T

I picked out every visible stone. I added a layer of sand. There was enough underlay for me to make a double layer. If it is leaking, I shall be cross.

With regard to foxes and bricks, I've only put bricks on it above the water line. That can't make it leak. And unless the foxes have been swimming...:p
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

You had it about three weeks ago going by my calculations unless you're planning on going on holiday.

I missed you and everyone here too, reading what you are all up to keeps me on track, and often gives me a good chuckle :D

The only other reason I can think of for dropping water level is maybe the ground underneath is compacting under the weight of the water after you loosened it. That would cause the liner to shrink down a bit at the bottom/ledges would make the water level at the top lower. But you would need light soil for that to happen I would think. Wouldn't happen on the London clay here.

Got more seedlings than space so I thought I'd be cleaver and borrow my sons window sills:D took 24 hours for his cat to eat every single one of them:mad:
The cat likes: sweet and hot peppers, toms, cucs, squash, parsley and coriander.
He had all 3 sweet peppers and too late to sow them now so will be giving them a miss this year!

I've decided to bite the bullet. Either this evening, or tomorrow, I'm putting everything into the greenhouse.

The consistently incorrect weather forecasts are now not predicting frosts.

    Plus it might mean:

    a) a bit less earache regarding windowsills/tables etc
    b) I'll stop looking at trays of compost every 5 mins wondering why nothing is growing...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Yes but often appropriate I find.
DS felt really bad when he called to tell me, but it's one of those things. Shame though as he has a 9' wide south facing bay window, seems such a waste.

Lemonjelly...........Dont forget to harden off any grown plants into the greenhouse first, especially any peppers, cuc's, squashes, toms, and anything else warm loving that I can't think of off the top of my head. You'll be really miffed if you walk in there and they're all dead due to shock of temperature

I wouldn't just yet, unless you wrap everything up in a nice bit of fleece. I've got a frost forecast for Sunday morning.

I don't think that's the case - the ground was quite compact. I'm hoping it's the lining settling into place. I guess I'll know in a week. :(

Oh, and sorry to hear about the stupid cat. You could always buy a couple of peppers. I know it's not the same, but it's that or no peppers. ;)
