System restore working last week? How often do you run it? :)

Pressing F8 at StartUp won't do any harm. Will just allow you to read the options available.

Touring South East Asia at the mo.

I can`t remember something happened last week, might have been a similar thing to whats going on now and I ran it ok.

South East Asia, how wonderful - have a great time.

I`ll try the F8 now at startup but not do anything.. and will let you know what it says. You do realise this is over and above! helping out whilst on holiday.

Ok, found the manual, it's here.

Try running a System File Check firstly.

Have to get ready to go out.

I`ve done F8 and the options are:

    Repair computer
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with networking
Safe Mode with (can`t read what I wrote down)
    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable Low Resolution video
    Last Known Good configuration (advanced)
    Direcotry services restore mode
    Debugging mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
    Disable Driver signature enforcement
    Start windows normally

I`ll run the system file check before doing anthing. Thanks

'Repair computer' might do the same.

Have just run the system file check and the results:

Microsoft windows (version 6.1.7600) copy right 2009 etc
    c:\windows system 32}sfc/scannow

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

    Many thanks.

Have you installed any new software recently?

    Which antivirus solution?

There is also the option to do a repair install using a Windows 7 Disc if necessary.

Will put together a guide in the next post...a bit later. Have to go out now.

    Meanwhile...

Factory Restore. Don't do the Restore, just create your Recovery Discs.

Create a set of Recovery discs first, using the Wizard.

    Hi
Went into Repair Computer and it went into system recovery options etc..asking me for administrator passwords etc so I came out of that...as wasn`t sure what it would do.
Then it went into Start Up Repair as it said computer unable to start.... I went downstairs and when I have come back it has restarted itself.

I havn`t installed anything lately (wouldn`t know what to do without askying you guys first...lol)

I am a good girl and have here 3 x HP recovers discs that I did when I first got the computer - following instructions from the forum. They just say disc 1,2,3 so don`t know whats on each of them.

I have Avast on the computer.

    Enjoy your evening.
