Luckily my labrador isn't too fussy and the only dog food he hates are those chub things, from Lidl. OH buys Zest for working dogs from 99p Stores or Pedigree from Poundland and if these are sold out I try to get 12 cans for a fiver of whatever is on special offer. Lab is fussier about mixer though so it has to be Waitrose and Spar own brands mixed so he gets a variety of sizes and colours and he doesn't waste it. Pets are very good at sulking !

I always find myself amused with the look of horror on people's faces when I openly admit to shopping at aldi.
Or the look of shock when someone enjoys a meal at my house then finds out it's from aldi!

I just have visions of Maggie (off Little Britain) who vomits after she has been informed that the food she has just eaten is not obtained from 'normal' sources!

Quick heads up for any that don't know about the voucher in Todays Sun newspaper, £5.00 off a £30.00 spend. It's on page 35. You might still be lucky to get a copy of todays paper.
  • I know quite a lot of people who're Aldi [and Lidl] snobs - it's been funny observing their reactions so far this year, as I decided towards the end of 2011, that I wanted to cut my outgoings, and eat healthily. I now eat four healthy meals a day, all prepared from ingredients bought from Aldi, and spend approx. £40 a month doing so. It's gotten to the stage where I've had people ask to see the receipts - they're that shocked.

I would imagine pretty soon I'll have convinced a few of 'em to pop into their local branch, to see what's on offer!
Live Healthily for £40 a month challenge:
    January 2012: £36.51 spent.
    February 2012: £39.55 spent.
    March 2012: £38.02 spent.
    April 2012: Skipped.
    May 2012: £24.13 [So far].

  • I am with you all here, as of this coming weekend we are converting from ASDA to ALDI. Having had a wonder around our nearest ALDI & LIDL stores and comparing what we can buy for our £'s in ALDI and the savings are very impressive.

I cannot understand the snobbery because the store and it's staff were absolutely brilliant. Yes they chuck the stuff through the scanner dead quick but it beats a slow checkout operator!

Quite excited to start the money saving journey! :D

She picked up a bottle of wine and said in a loud voice ;"well its not what we'd call wine is it?". How snotty of her! but now times have changed and she has to buy her stuff there.

My OH's friend is an award winning master wine taster and buyer. He and his colleagues said that Aldi have a lot better idea about wine than the other supermarkets. I personally can also vouch for this and for the Glen Orin whisky, but I'm not an expert, I just like drinking it :)

Any recommendations of wine? Did my first aldi shop this week and am very impressed with the food. But I'm a bit nervous about choosing wine as sometimes cheap wine can trigger a migraine for me.
