I am sitting here eating my chilli dorito's and drinking my Orchard cider, this morning I had pork chipolatas 95% meat content at around £1.86, for my usual full english breakie as our sunday treat.
All from Aldi, and its all really good. I found some sausages in tesco as a bogoff, with only 47% meat content, which means the rest is god knows what else.( which i left on the shelf)

So I am an aldi fan as i go there more and more, and I was sooooo happy when Asda opened here last oct, which is three times further away from aldi. But now I am an aldi convert
  • 1KG of pre-packed Bananas £1.19 in Aldi.

Loose Bananas are only 68p per KG in the main supermarkets.

Aldi don't sell loose Bananas so no choice.

I always find Sainsbury's the least expensive for bananas, my local branch always has loads of unblemished and green bananas so with a bit of considered picking they don't all ripen at the same time. Aldi and Lidl have some great fruit and veg, but it's not universal.

There were two types in my Aldi yesterday, some at £1.19 but some kg packs at 60 something or 70 something pence. Can't remember which but I bought them and they went through at the correct price. I'll try to find the receipt. They were 1kg in a bag with 8 bananas in.

    68p for 1kg.
  • Apart from the shoving everything in your trolley just to take it out and repack it again, I love Aldi, in a lot of cases some of their products are better than stuff I've had from Tesco or anywhere else.

  • another aldi fan here, i love how peaceful it is, i hate going to asda now, there are a few smartprice items that still work out better/cheaper than aldi like the scourers but if it wasn't for that i would happily buy everything from aldi.

I will be using my £5 off voucher this week and treating myself to some ice cream with the 30% off voucher as well!!

I've been to Aldi a couple of times but I don't really like it.

I DO like Lidl but I'm selective at how I use it. I go for the fresh veg, the smoked salmon, the cheeses and sliced meats and the quirky non-food bargains. Shopping in Lidl is less predictable than Sainsbury's. My local one is full of Eastern Europeans, care home owners - and I once spotted a film crew. The car park and customers don't seem to mesh because it's full of high end cars and the customers are really scruffy. (My mother would say I am too but she doesn't like tshirts and jeans)

My mother moved and her new neighbour was German. They went to Lidl together, then my mother took me and then I took my MIL. We were in the queue once and this woman's mobile rang. She told the caller that she was in Sainsbury's and everyone in the queue sniggered.

Re: plastic bags at M&S I think you'll find they are being sold in aid of a sustainable fish campaign. I have zillions of jute, hemp and canvas bags now and I just pick a few out before going shopping.
  • Looking forward to 2pm today when I'm going shopping at Aldi with my £5 off £30 spend voucher plus 30% off various items including icecream.

I normally shop in Morrisons or the Co-op but going to try Aldi :j for a change!! Got my bags ready in the boot of my car :j

my SIL wont set foot in Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Tesco or Morrisons - she will condescend to a Sainsbury shop - but mostly shops in M&S. sadly, she thinks that Aldi and Lidl must have substandard food - and when I tell her that its equal or better in quality than most supermarkets, she doesnt believe me! but then I do call her Princess Ann! (behind her back that is).

btw - did an Aldi shop today - and the car park was full of very nice, fairly new cars!

Mrs Dickydonkin alway attempted to get me to take her to our local Aldi and I always tried to dissuade her as I thought the same as above - that the products would be inferior to the so called big four brands.

That changed when I wanted something for the garden which was advertised at Aldi. While we were in there, we bought some food items as well and I have to concede that they were fine - in fact some of the ready meals we bought were actually very good - and the fresh fruit and veg were much cheaper that Tesco.

We don't do a 'full shop' in Aldi, however as we are very fortunate here as our Tesco Extra, Home Bargains and Aldi are all located on the same retail park - so if we make the effort to use HB for toiletries, Aldi for fresh veg and other items and Tesco for 'special offers', then we can make quite a saving.

If you are fortunate like us and have all of the above outlets on one retail park - go to Tesco or Home Bargains first and get enough carrier bags for your visit to Aldi!
