hi just wanted to reiterate what everyone has said really. x i had a miscarriage nearly 3 yrs ago now which was eventually put down to an under active thyriod but it could of just been one of those things, you never really know, we didnt know at the time and i wasnt on medication, so have been on the medication for the last 2 1/2 yrs and have just had a healthy (9lb 120z ouch) baby boy. your wife will continue to go for regular blood tests and the medication will be increased if required. i didnt actually need mine changing through the whole pregnancy.
just bear in mind and underactive thyroid makes you tired anyway and then with the pregnancy even more so so be sympathetic lol. x
there is also a miscarriage support thread if you feel the need to talk about it

Only just seen this thread, and pleased to see you've had so many positive responses. A friend of mine had bleeding in early pregnancy with both her babies, and both are doing well. Fingers crossed for you and your wife, and may I say that it's nice to hear a man's point of view on pregnancy, as it gives me a better understanding of how my husband must be feeling at the moment (I'm 5 weeks pregnant on Friday).Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

            Hi all,
A quick update. The spotting started to slow but gp arranged early scan to be on safe side. All looking ok so far. 6.5 weeks. I went in to the scan too. I think it was a bit smoky in the room because my eyes almost started to water. Feeling mainly relieved. Hcg levels are through the roof. Going to try and relax about things a bit more now. I think it was getting to us both a bit. Have been trying to look after mrs parsnip as much as possible.
have been thinking about names. Difficult isn't it? Will start decorating the spare room soon.
Hope everyone else is getting on ok.0

Stop it.......you're starting me off, now!
I have just come across this thread. What a lucky lady Mrs. Parsnip is to have such a loving and caring husband.
Be guided by the midwives and doctors and make sure Mrs. Parsnip continues to "listen" to her body.
Do not be afraid to ask questions. No question is silly and there is probably no question that has not been asked of the doctors or midwives before. I am sure they have heard it all and they know how precious your little baby is to you, so please do not worry about mentioning any of your worries to them.:)
Bless all three of you!:snow_grin"Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow........":snow_grin0

Sorry to hear about your previous miscarriage mr parsnip. You've come to the right place for pregnancy advice!
If you want to reassure yourselves with a scan, it sounds like this might already be possible in terms of dates. The pregnancy has to be about 7 weeks along for the scan to be worthwhile and if your wife found out 5 weeks ago that she's pregnant again, she's probably already at least 9 weeks.
The scan won't just look for a yolk sac, it will also check for the baby's heartbeat (it can be clearly seen flickering away). If the sonographer sees this, your chances of miscarriage reduce dramatically to around a couple of percent. I don't know whether you'll be able to get this on the NHS; usually they don't investigate or treat you as high risk until you've had three miscarriages in a row. However, you can pay for this yourself if you'd like peace of mind (perhaps around £100).
Spotting is really common in early pregnancy. You'll hear from many, many women who've had bleeding and gone on to have completely normal and healthy pregnancies.
As your pregnancy progresses, you might want to try our fabulous threads on here. This is the most appropriate one for you at the moment but there's a thread for everything!

Our second got nicknamed (you know how some people give their unborn's pet names etc) "Barcode" because he was scanned so often due to various scares, bleeding, pains etc. He's now a lively 4 year old monster.
Having kids is the best of times and sometimes the worst of times all rolled into one - however it is only hard because you care, and because they are important to you - so if you are worrying, try to relax and realise that its normal to be concerned about their wellbeing - you've probably got another 40 years of it to come!
I never thought I was that bothered about having kids, until at one point during our first's pregnancy he seemed to stop moving. The deep anxiety I felt until we were able to get things checked out made me realise how much I did care. He was 7 at the weekend, and still capable of heart stopping moments!Adventure before Dementia!0

I tested negetive twice and finally postive once I was 4 months pg, and then had 3 day periods every month for the first 7 months of my pregnancy. At times I didn't know if I was coming or going! In the end a friend told me to the best thing I could do was relax, if this baby was supposed to happen - it would. She kept us on tenderhooks the entire pregnancy with various issues and with a last minute complication thrown in to the delivery for good measure, but in the end she was born hale and hearty and is now a very lively 19 year old. Though as other parents say the worry never ends - it just transfers to something else. Weekends I leap out of bed at 5am to check she got home from night out safely! No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0
