I setup Beana Castle last night when I got back from the parents as my shelves had arrived :) The shelves are a bit dodgy, but I whacked them into place quite a bit. I've got loo rolls on the top shelf (too tall to reach normally), tins on the bottom for stability, pasta up high so my housemates dogs can't get to it. Fairy liquid on top of choc spread ;) Other stuff I can't remember dotted all over the rest.
Then I have 20lt fab conditoner on the floor next to it, with the plastic bottle for cloches collection on top. I'm surprised it all fits into a space of 1m wide x 30cm deep, but it does and my room is looking more organised already and now the wardrobe door closes.
I need to pay myself for all the things I've used, so might do a stock check tonight. I've defintely eaten a fair few creme eggs, although the box is at my parents, and I need to pay my purse for another tin of beans.
I should take a picture of it and show you all :)

Hmm I've just totted it all up and I've got £370.90 worth of stock. I've paid £230.16 into my 2nd purse, I owe £169.11 to my purse and my purse currently stands at £1.71.
This is because I have put down the kindle, which I need to pay £149 to my purse for as I bought it for £28 :) I also owe my purse for one months contact lenses and a few other bits. I'm treating this as a small loan, so I can pay the purse back gradually instead of all at once :) I am keeping track of everything that I buy for cheaper than RRP so I can see the savings I'm making, before anyone panics that I've paid so much in :)
Also I budget £110 a year for my contact lenses at discount price, so was able to transfer that money from my pots straight to 2nd purse for their purchase.

Jakes-mum Gings! there's a lot you cant eat. I will have to do part of the list of superfoods every day so if you copy and paste them into a word doc, esp the ones you can eat.

    Cabbage
Cabbage contains healing mucilaginous substances similar to those produced by the mucous membrane of the gut and stomach for their own protection. Raw cabbage juice is the traditional cure for ulcers. It has sulphur that is a tonic and disinfectant in respiratory infections. Rich in iron the green blood of plants which is chemically almost identical to human blood. It has a reputation for protection against stress, infection and cardiac problems. Those eating most cabbage were least likely to develop cancer. Raw cabbage is most beneficial ( use in coleslaw) Cooked cabbage is rough on the digestion , so steam it for a short time.

Carrots (one of the GREAT superfoods)
Rich in Beta-Carotene 1 carrot will give you your vitamin A for the whole day. Those who want to stay young healty and unwrinkled, should eat plenty of carrots. Eating them will increase levels of red blood cells and protect against ultra violet or radiation. Extremely high antioxidant content – vitamin A,C and E would help people with narrowed arteries. Doucarine found in carrots can widen arteries.

    Celery
Rich in calcium it is a natural diuretic, it also clears uric acid from painful joints. This is more concentrated in the seeds and roots. Celery tea is a Romany treatment for rheumatic ailments, a daily half glass for 15-20 days is worth trying, more than this would be counter productive. It is good for ulcers depression arthritis and as a sedative.

    Chicory
A powerful cleanser and detoxifier. One of the great spring tonics it gives the whole body an invigorating clean out. It is anti inflammatory and helps eliminate toxic waste from the kidneys. It is also a friend of the liver. Good for arthritis, rheumatism, skin problems and gout.

Cold pressed oils (not too much)
Better if you eat with foods with vitamin A,C or E at the same time, fruits , veg or wholegrain bread.

    Cranberries
Used for treating urinary infections and kidney stones, the juice contains a lot of bacteriostatic substances that pass unchanged through the kidneys and remains active in the urine raising its acidity enhancing its bactericidal effect. It can be used for long periods with no side effects.

    Dandelions Leaves
Dandelion tea is a gentle but highly effective diuretic, and is a bitter tonic to the digestive system. It helps the body eliminate uric acid, excess cholesterol and urea. Its action on the liver is remarkable. It also provides potassium to replace any lost by the diuretic properties. With more iron than spinach, rich in vitamin C, beta carotene and chlorophyll (see cabbage).
Good for skin , joint problems , fatigue, circulatory disorders or cancer. You can get a coffee substitute made from roasted dandelion leaves in health food shops. Good for the digestion and helps you sleep.

    Dates
Iike figs are a highly energizing and nourishing food, mildly laxative, figs can help counter constipation. Full of minerals.
Figs contain an enzyme called ficin that aid the digestive process they exert a soothing action the length of the gut.
Dried figs are a rich source of fibre, iron potassium and calcium.

    Fish
Oily ones like mackerel, salmon, tuna, herring, anchovy and sardines contain high levels eicosapentanoeic acid one of the Omega 3 family which are essential to healthy cell function. Valuable to those with skin disease, atherosclerosis and arthritis.

Free Range chicken & eggs & biologically reared beef and lamb, are tastier and free from many of the chemicals fed to them from birth to death. Eggs laid by birds exposed to daylight are lower in cholesterol than battery eggs.

    Game
Free range by definition and so free from many of the chemicals found in factory farmed meat (SMkts). Less than 4% fat they have plenty of iron.

    Garlic
Is the KING of ALL healing plants. Russians eat it to keep old age at bay and as a general tonic . it is antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral – with almost no recorded side effects except for irritation in the gut of those sensitive to it.
High in germanium ( ginseng has more) which promotes cellular uptake of oxygen: This help account for its wide range accredited powers. It is an anticoagulant , it lowers blood pressure, lowers cholesterol levels, onions share many of the same properties but to a lesser extent.

    Grapefruit
High levels of vitamin C, loads of potassium, and a high concentration of bioflavonoids and pectin are highest in the pith and in the membranes dividing the segments. Eat the whole fruit for maximum benefit.
WARNING DO NOT EAT GRAPEFRUIT IF YOU ARE ON CHOLESTEROL MEDICATION.

NB. Eating too many carrots will turn you orange!

Indeed! Lol. I think 1-3 per day would be safe enough. Sorry about the length of the posts, but I think listing the foods and explaining why they are superfoods, will be more useful.

I don't follow the diet I had to when I had ME, but I eat many of these foods every day, and more of certain ones if I feel poorly. I also have diabetes now, because of the pancreatitis. So I still have to avoid certain foods. And have to cook everything from scratch, its a bit of a nuisance, but processed foods are hard enough to digest if your healthy. Its worth it if it makes you feel better.
Hugs to those who are unwell, I hope you can find some things from the lists to eat. xxx

My chap mentioned this one a couple of weeks ago, but seemed to think it was peculiar to one particular Statin.

Spotted mention of it in the book I got from the library yesterday, where it says

"Taking one particular statin drug (lovastatin) with a glass of grapefruit juice produces the same blood levels of the drug as taking 12 tablets with water! If you take medications, check the drug information sheet provided for grapefruit interactions."

 at the risk of overdosing

leaves me desperately hoping I never end up on them, as grapefruit is one of very few fruits I eat (both tinned and fresh) or drink the juice from !!!!

  • Simvastatin is another one, and I'm sure there are more. If you eat some of the cholesterol lowering superfoods regularly, you may never need to ever do without your grapefruit juice. :)

    I live in hope :)

Mine was only 'marginally high' when I was tested, so I'm hoping that if I get into the habit of watching what I'm cooking when my chap's over that'll then encroach into my cooking when he's not (once I've used up all the !!!! I have in the house he should avoid or only eat once in a while) - and that can only be good news for me :j

I don't like have regular meds, partially 'cos I don't like consuming 'chemicals' but mainly as I'm really bad at remembering to take them - and always have been  So controlling mine with diet seems to be the way to go for that as well :)

Mr M are doing the same deal as last week: £5 off £40 shop voucher in tomorrow's Sun newspaper (though it was £6 last week......)

I don't think I will be spending enough this week to use it, but will tally up the shopping list and see what 2nd purse bargains might be about (though 2nd purse only has about £10 at the moment.....)

    HTH someone
