    Today is day one of my £50/week spend challenge, that's £50 for food and petrol :D Although I'm not counting this weeks veg box (cheating I know, but I need petrol to get to the parents). I don't think I'm ever going to feed myself for £12.50 a week though :(

    Great thing about going to the 'rents is that they have all the SMs in their town and it's easier to get to them compared to trying to get anywhere in London. So if anyone spots any good offers on big tubs of yoghurt I'm all ears :) That's my brekkie staple.

    Bean-A-Lot gets another refit on Wednesday, my new bed arrives (ottoman with drawers) so I can put all the couscous and loo roll that's stacked precariously into the ottoman ;) I'll get funny looks if people find out I sleep on top of Ainsley Harriott hahaha

    Have you tried the Lidl Greek Style yog Kerri? Big pot with handle (1kg I think)......it's very thick and creamy (10% fat) and tastes fabulous with muesli and granola.

    It was under £2.

    Just popping on to say that the 2nd purse 'saved' me twice this week - window cleaner turned up just as I was leaving to take the children to school (why do they do that?) so £5 emergency cash needed, then £10 for DS1 who needed to pay for a youth club activity. I very rarely have cash on me (other than the grocery budget) so the 2nd purse came in handy. All paid back now I've been to the bank ;)

    Can I also ask how others account for taking stock out of their 'shops'. I am making a daily note of things I am using (stuff for pack ups and loo rolls mainly) and pay the purse every few days, amending the spreadsheet as I go along. Except that last night I forgot to save the spreadsheet and lost all my data. Had to do an emergency stocktake this evening to get back on track, so annoyed :mad:. Is my way too AR? (please say No!)

    This is exactly how I do mine, if I have change in my handbag, I will settle up immediately, if not I pop the purchase on my spreadsheet next to 2nd purse and profit next to 3rd purse, then settle up when I have cash :)

    This is the bit that puzzles me too......

    Because if we are buying from OUR store, what we would buy from a SM anyway - then it isnt increasing the grocery budget.

    Because it would have been bought anyway.

    With my sensible hat on, I have to accept that it makes no difference if I spend £10 in Sainsbugs or Sallys Stores - I am not spending anymore from the grocery budget.

    Am I?????? :rotfl::o:rotfl:

    But lots of us think we are spending more out of the grocery budget......so why do we think that???? :rotfl:

    Confuzzled!!

    Hi Fozzie - Tbh I have always bought as much as I can when it is on offer, so for example if cheese was on offer at BOGOF for £3.99 that equals £2 per packet. But now I am buying it from MunniMart it is costing me £3.99 per packet instead of £2 thereby increasing my GB by an extra £4. HTH and I haven't confuzzled you anymore:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    That's why I do my SP slightly differently and don't count my purchases from SP shop in my GC budget, only a regular amount that I allocate to SP for bulk buys. That way it doesn't distort my GC and what I declare in GC is only what the supermarkets get our of me ;

    Hi Helen - I have just totalled up my GB for this month and it looks like this (am trying to reduce from £375 pm to £250, so maybe being over ambitious anyway in the first month:p)

    Money to SM from GB - £212.96
    Money to second purse - £113.33 (also spent in SM for stock)
    Money to third purse - £41.84

    Total spend for month (so far - month ends on 21st) - £368.13

    So working it out like this it looks pretty good. I am in budget of my usual spend at £375 but way over where I would like to be (£250) but have nearly £50 of pure profit to me (well nearer £40, but looks better rounding it up:rotfl::rotfl:. Looks pretty good when done like this.

    To try and get nearer to my new budget I think I will stop buying back at full price, but something nearer what I would be prepared to pay for it and also have started putting profit straight into 3rd purse, which has helped me get my 3rd purse to where it is now. Haven't paid into my 3rd purse yet tho so will update signature when the money has physically been handed over:D

    Thanks Fozzie and Helen and everyone else who has helped me get my head round the 2nd purse system:T:T - looking forward to seeing Mothership's word document soon

    edit: just to say that I have £362.86 worth of stock in Munnimart too:j:j

    Have just started putting profit straight into 3rd purse, so my spreadsheet now looks something like yours, I'd imagine :D

  • Jake's Mum - how will you get your shopping in Mr T for free? (I like the sound of that ;)).

    I realised how entrenched I was becoming in this thread when I looked at the shopping list I'd made this week and I'd actually put Mr A, Mr T etc instead of the actual names :rotfl:.

    I'm not a fan of greek style unfortunately :( I love the really thick yo valley ones or the rachels ones. The one I had recently was so thick I had to spoon it out haha, the museli is just there so I get something to last me through to lunchtime, I leave it in the yoghurt for 15mins to soak it all up mmmm.

    I wrote a big post then it disappeared grr. Summary is that I think this thread is a massive eye-opened for those that don't already bulk buy, as you really get to see how much money the SMs were taking away from you. Obviously if you've been doing that for years then you're not going to see a massive difference, but at least the SP gives you focus :)

    I've got 2 weeks before my next stocktake, I do it monthly when I get paid as I never have any money at the moment to be able to put it in week by week (because I spend it which I know is naughty but I'm new to budgeting :p).
