thank you for all your replies...lots for me to think about:D I will keep the second purse at the back of my mind and keep trying!
I think the problem at the moment is we are trying to get our finances sorted. we have an amount of money in our account to pay debts and till that is sorted I am not sure how much we have in our account that is available so am afraid to spend at the moment. I am also trying to explain the importance of keping track of spending to my OH but he doesn't seem to get it. he only buys essential things but it all adds up and 9/10 he doesn't tell me so I think we have sent less that we have.
sorry to waffle and moan...I am going to find something to lift the depressing mood finances and money bringsaving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

After feeling sorry for myself yesterday about DD moving out, today I can see that it may be very good for my budgeting!!
I had a 49p packet of savoury rice lurking in the cupboard, cooked it this morning (I was awake at 2am) and at lunchtime I stir friend it (with water not fat) with 3 leftover and sliced up DR mini steak burgers we had for tea yesterday and a handful of petit pois out of the freezer......
Made 2 portions of "beef fried rice" for me! And very tasty

Well so far for my £50 for the week challenge, I've spent £8.42 in Stock-a-lot (my 2nd purse), £3.55 in Mr A and £19.88 in Mr L - a total of £31.85. Need a few things from other shops where the bargains are in the next few days but so far, so good
.
Got some stuff out of my 2nd purse also from Mr L:
Chicken breasts 540g £3.29 x 2, buy back 3.99 each.
Apple Juice 1.5l 89p x 4, buy back £1.00 (usual price £1.14)
Walkers crisps x 18 packs 1.99 x2, buy back £2.50 (usual price £3.29)
Hoola Hoops crisps x 18 packs 1.79 x 2, buy back £2.50 (usual price £2.99)
Heinz baked beans x 6 tins £2.48, buy back 60p per tin.
I never charge myself the full SM price when I buy back from the 2nd purse so therefore my grocery budget has not gone up. I buy them back at a little bit extra instead so that I make enough money to put in my 2nd purse so that I can keep buying the bargains when I see them.
I then make a menu plan for the week, and take out any items I need from my 2nd purse stock and pay for them when I get my weekly grocery money, like going to the supermarket with a list and buying it there. If I need anything extra from my shop during the week, I take it out and pay for it out of my grocery budget at that time as if I'm visiting the SM for it.Pay debt in 2012 #278 £2347/£5364

I stopped doing the GC I was rubbish at it, I am only just learning and having to declare my weekly grocery spend on a thread full of frugalistas is quite scary when you have to say "I'm cooking for one but spending £300 a month". The reason for me charging myself full SM price is because that's what I've been doing in the SMs without thinking, so this is a big eye opener to me. Although I think it probably works out better alongside the GC thread if you pay what you would be willing to pay for it. I don't think the two of threads have to go against each other, it would just mean that your 3rd purse grows slower.
So if you'd normally buy loo roll at 25p/roll and buy it in bulk, and you get it for 25p/roll then your SP would break even for itDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Thank you for the kind words. Yes I would love to be included.
I have had a very steep learning curve with the boys, they certainly keep me on my feet.
I do not have a lot of room at home since they came to live with us full time, they needed places to put their stuff.
I will take on board the plastic box idea, to try and keep the mice out, I was surprised how they chewed through the packaging, must have the fattest mice around!
I have even used a spare kitchen cupboard at my parents.
Next time I am at a wilkinson I will look for the bold, but there is not one close by that I can just pop into.
I still have tinned goods, so I just need to work out how to approach this.
Look forward to hearing more from you and getting more ideas.Trying to regain my sanity0 -

Still keep an eye on your plastic boxes especially if stored outside in garage as mice can still gnaw through them. I used to live in a house with a basement and stored fish food in really thick plastic boxes and the mice gnawed through them to get to the food. In the end we had to buy a metal dustbin and put the plastic boxes inside this to keep them out

That's why I do my SP slightly differently and don't count my purchases from SP shop in my GC budget, only a regular amount that I allocate to SP for bulk buys. That way it doesn't distort my GC and what I declare in GC is only what the supermarkets get our of meStill keep an eye on your plastic boxes especially if stored outside in garage as mice can still gnaw through them.
