Aw Fozzie, I'll update your front page total :) If you're DD is anything like my sister, then she'll still be round all the time. My sister moved out with my nephew and spends more time at my parents now than she ever did before, although she did move 2 minutes away. The good thing though, you get to have some peace and quiet away from the madness :)

Just think of the pennies you'll save, and invest in some individual pots for freezing lasagnes, shepherds pies, and things like that. I cook for myself and do that quite a bit :)

    1) I have balanced purses today, SP did have £20 and then:-

SP bought 2 x large Bold gels for £3 each and 2 x 24 Colour Catchers for £2 each to add to Sallys Stores.

Then I bought from Sallys Stores:-

    Wotsits bought @ 99p and paid £1.50
Animal mini biccies bought @ 76p and paid £1.50
Dishwasher tablets bought @ £1.00 and paid £2.50
Kitchen Roll bought @ 50p and paid 50p

So £10 out of SP and £6 back in, so SP is now at £16 (my max balance is only £20) and my 3rd Purse has £20.

    2) I had my 1st DR steak yesterday, it was rib eye - no water at all came out as I cooked it, the fat went brown and crispy, it hardly shrank at all or curled up as it cooked and it tasted lovely and there were NO bits I couldnt chew and no gristly bits left on the side of my plate, so very pleased with that!

I have really failed to get my head round the second purse:( it all works in my head but when I try to put it in practice...
I have loads of stock but can't get to grips with paying for it and increasing my GC budget (which has also gone by the wayside but that is another story...). I know that if I pay for it it will increase my savings and maybe next month when I keep track of my GC.
I have still been reading all posts and am so inspired by you all

:grouphug: hugs. It will take a lot of getting used to your new situation but like the others say, we're here for you and I'm sure your DD and grandson will be visiting frequently for Mum/Gran's home cooking!

    Hello,

I started reading this and have wanted so desperately to try and do something like this for ages.

What I want to know is where you store your stocks?

I took possession of 2 teenage 'step sons' on a part time basis, who made it their ambition to find the 'goody' food stocks, including opening almost every cereal box meaning all were stale as we were unaware they had found them for quite some time, so wiping out my stock and in effect I was spending more.

Next I thought I had over come this and had an outside store cupboard (like an old coal cupboard), well the mice loved this.

    So what do you do?

By the way where is the bold gel from please?
    Trying to regain my sanity

Hello notyetmrs would you like me to add you to the thread? I don't have any children so can't comment on them opening all the cereal boxes, but I do store mine in the lurvly tupperware so that when it's open it doesn't go stale :) I can't keep nice things in the house as I eat them oops. Oh also the tupperware/big tubs would stop the mices :)

bunbun you can set your own prices for your shop, so if you want some cheese today and would normally buy it at £2 for a block, but come across an offer that's equal to £1.50 a block, you'd pay £1.50 from your SP for the cheese, then buy it back when you need it at £2. It's basically the same as "oh my goodness I've run out of cheese I'll have to go to the SM and pay full price/whatever the current deal is" etc. It shouldn't increase your grocery budget, but should start to get you in the habit of knowing when a good deal is a good deal :)

I especially find now when I'm going round the SMs that I will look at prices, tally up in my head whether it's better or equal to what I would expect to pay and if it's higher I won't buy it. I walked out of SMs twice this week because I couldn't get a decent deal on yoghurt, I knew I could get 2 tubs for £2 but everywhere was charging £3 so I kept my cash. Although I eventually did cave but that was for a new flavour which was blackcurrant & elderflower mmmm my fave! But I still shopped round for the best deal for it :)

SP isn't about making your GC budget harder, it's about making your money work for you. My Dad called me tighter than a crabs bottom yesterday, so I said "well actually, had I not shopped around for the best deal I would've spent £300 for 2 e-readers, instead I spent £20 as I used vouchers and discounts" That shut him up pretty quickly. I did buy them back off myself at the same price I would normally have spent for them though and invested that in more stock.

Hmm I've wittered on, sorry :) I've got 2.5 weeks until I do another stocktake, I wonder how many crisps I've eaten eep.
