Funnily enough, I seem to be getting more anxious now. I'm in my mid forties and seem to suddenly feel panicky or anxious, when I used to sail through life in my twenties!! I wonder if its hormones or summat??
  • I get panic attacks. It's awful. So really well done polkadot! :T

Ok even though im still going to save for my actifry, im actually going to save for something else first :o

It is DH's birthday in April, and DS's birthday end of May, they are both massive motorbike fans and every year they forget to look up the BMF bike show until its too late. Well I have looked it up and its my birthday weekend (typical). Well anyway, a few years ago some *insert expletive* who worked away with DH and shared a room with him, nicked his Yamaha fleece he got from the only BMF show we actually managed to attend (by a sheer fluke) and DH was heartbroken. It was £35 - £40 worth of jacket and I was not best pleased but what can you do? we couldnt prove it :(

So I have decided to save all my 2nd purse money (and maybe a bit extra off my own back :shhh:) for give to DH on his birthday to buy his ticket to the show (ds is free :D) an enough for him to get a new jacket and for DS to get a new motorbike jacket and hopefully trousers too, as he grew out of his old stuff last year and I couldnt afford to replace it so he hasnt been on the back of his dads bike in 12 months :(

I think im going to need £100 minimum, and DS will be told the jacket and bike show trip is part of his birthday present so dont mind having to scrape that together. So I need you all to seriously sit on my shoulder these next 2 months saying 'you dont need that reduced cake, the boys need to see bikers do stunts!'

I've been really struggling with my exhaustion recently and with most of the office off sick with various ailments, my body's defenses have been working hard, too. I'm pretty much the only person not to have fallen ill this year, which I'm pretty proud of.

However, work has been really stressful recently, including my having had to raise an HR issue about bullying behaviour from a colleague.

I was queuing up to buy my lunch on Monday and suddenly my legs started to shake-I thought thy were going to give way! I presumed it was because I was hungry but it didn't go away. Another wave came on Tuesday morning and again yesterday, though not so bad. I presume it's related to my exhaustion and stress but I've never had it before so am concerned.

I wanted to speak to my boss about taking a couple of days off: today and tomorrow. I want to talk to my doctor but know that they won't take me seriously if I haven't at least tried to rest first.

My boss could barely speak, she was so angry with me for "putting her on the spot." I get where she's coming from but at least I've volunteered to take it has holiday and not just called in sick.

I now feel that the whole purpose of taking today off, to rest and destress, has been defeated because I've been made to feel guilty about it.

She agreed to let me have extra holiday carried over to this year, knowing that the intention was to take most of it off this time of the year, so why agree to that and then make me feel bad for it?!

And she should know better, too: she was once signed off work for months because of stress and anxiety so should know how this feels

    :mad::mad::mad

    ***Rant over***

Hopefully I won't have a patronising doctor tomorrow....;)

I often wonder if its age/hormone related as it only manifested after DS1 was born.

  • Savvybunny - Thanks for referring me super-fast, I have just placed my first order for some mince and am now super looking forward to Saturday when I get my delivery.

SueP - I am assuming that now I have placed an order I need to go on the list to refer someone? (let me know if I have got the wrog end of the stick please) Ta for being so organised with this as well

I wanted to order the steak pack but I think I will be ordering half a pig from a local farm and at £105 it's not cheap, so I will just have to get some more deals next time.

Sounds like you've got a pretty fierce working environment, perhaps other people are feeling stressed and put upon as well? As often lots of staff going off sick can be an indicator of that, even if they are not actually signed off with 'stress'.

Your boss doesn't sound very professional or very sympathetic. Unfortunately sometimes people who have suffered it themselves are the worst as they think they know it all. It might be worth sending a carefully worded and neutral (not accusing) email explaining that you felt her reaction to asking for time of exacerbated your stress. She may not be aware that she's come across that way as her stress triggers might be different to yours.

Work-related stress is a health and safety issue in the same way that fire hazards and heavy boxes are, and deserves to be treated as such. Do you have a union rep or approachable HR you can speak to about it? If not speak to your doctor as I think they can send information to employers. In my experience doctors have got better at recognising and helping with stress but if you do get one of the old guard you are perfectly entitled to ask to see another doctor for a second opinion.

Huge hugs (((hug))) going your way, I do hope you feel better soon xx
